Despite facing the biggest deficit of his career after four races, Davide Brivio believes Marc Marquez has no reason to panic.

Marc Marquez might have blown his last shot at the 2026 MotoGP world championship after crashing early in the Spanish Grand Prix.

With Marco Bezzecchi securing a second-place finish during the race, Marquez is now 44 points behind the championship leader.

Did Marc Marquez end his title hopes at Jerez or was it just a blip?

While some believe Marquez’s injury issues became evident at the Spanish Grand Prix, there are others who think that he can still close the gap.

And Trackhouse team principal, Davide Brivio, believes Marc Marquez will still be confident in his ability to overcome this deficit this season.

Davide Brivio says Marc Marquez is calm despite 44-point gap to Marco Bezzecchi

Speaking in a live stream with Giovanni Zamagni, Trackhouse team principal Davide Brivio was asked how Marc Marquez will approach the rest of the season after the devastating crash at the Spanish Grand Prix.

He noted that while Marc Marquez won’t be thrilled with the crash, he knows that he can close the gap. Even more so, his championship win last season means he has little to prove, and can fight as hard as he wants without feeling disappointed in the outcome.

“I asked myself this because yesterday, after the sprint, I thought, since he came back to within 24 points of Bezzecchi, the experience he probably has, and in the condition he is in, he says, ’Well, okay, 24 points, there are 18 races left, let’s start working to recover them calmly and peacefully…

“Last season gave him great peace of mind. He’s at peace with himself. He has closed the circle. So I think he’s saying now, ‘I have 54 points. Now I’m going to try to push and recover, and see where I get.’ But I don’t think there’s any pressure, any tension. I think he’s pretty calm overall.

“Angry, disappointed? Maybe because he’s done. But you don’t see him losing his head. Because he doesn’t have the advantage from last year, he’ll try and say, ‘Okay, great, 54 points, now I’ll try and win it. Then you’ll see an incredible story in the end, if I can’t, never mind. I’m fine.’

“It’s not that he’s not motivated, but he isn’t motivated with anxiety to win at all costs. That would lead to disaster. Maybe he had that last year. But he doesn’t have it now. I think he’s enjoying the moment more, the possible comeback, the races.”

How Marc Marquez responded to Marco Bezzecchi lead at Spanish Grand Prix

Speaking on a recent livestream on the Nicoabad YouTube channel, MotoGP reporter Mela Chercoles revealed how Marquez responded when he was informed of the gap between him and Bezzecchi.

“There was a curious anecdote with Marc on Thursday. He was telling us that he was 37 points behind the leader, that it was good, he had started recovering, and I told him, ‘Hey, don’t give away points, you’re 36 behind, not 37.’

“He goes, ‘Wow, well then I can start Sunday as the leader!’ He’s got his head on the wall for doubles. He knows he is going for Jerez. It’s not his circuit anymore. He hasn’t won there since 2019…”

It appears Marc Marquez is genuinely not letting himself get down by the overwhelming gap between him and Bezzecchi.

Whether his title challenge can come to be later this season remains to be seen. But Marquez is approaching things the right way.
