Marc Marquez took responsibility for his crash at the Spanish Grand Prix, and admitted to Ducati that it should not have happened.

After taking pole position and the Sprint win at Jerez, the Spaniard was looking to complete a clean sweep. However, his brother, Alex Marquez, had immense speed and took the lead of the Spanish Grand Prix on lap two.

Shortly after, the Ducati rider was chasing the Gresini down when he crashed heavily at turn 11, flying into the gravel trap at speed. His wait for a podium on Sunday in 2026 continues, and Marquez took full responsibility for the accident.

Marc Marquez told Ducati ‘you can’t crash like that’ after retiring from Spanish Grand Prix

Marquez offered a surprise reaction to his crash in the media, saying that he would dust himself off and go again on Monday for the Jerez test. However, in the garage, he admitted his mistake.

In a behind-the-scenes video on Ducati’s YouTube channel, Marquez is seen debriefing with his engineers, and he explains that he did not understand why he lost the bike.

One of his engineers says: “The only thing I see… You entered into the corner a bit before… This is the front. Before touching the gas, you were already at the limit.”

As Luigi Dall’Igna comes to debrief, Marquez admits: “There are days when I understand why I crashed. Not today. I didn’t understand what happened. On the second lap, you can’t crash like that.”

Dall’Igna tries to see the positives from the weekend: “We always take the good… We were fast.” Marquez then responds: “Also on the podium. We’ll work tomorrow.”

Is Marc Marquez out of the title fight after more injury trouble?

To rule Marquez out of title contention after just four rounds sounds foolish. But he is now facing the biggest comeback in his MotoGP career, currently sitting 44 points behind Marco Bezzecchi.

Alex Marquez says Bezzecchi cannot rule Marc Marquez out of contention yet. However, the Ducati rider is clearly struggling on the GP26, and with his physical condition still not improving, it could be an uphill battle to clinch the title.

Claudio Domenicali admits Marquez’s injury is ‘more serious’ than they had feared. His right shoulder injury from Mandalika last year is still causing issues, and his right forearm is showing huge cuts and scrapes from his crash at COTA.
