While Marc Marquez has not started the season well, Lorenzo Savadori believes he can still be a threat to Marco Bezzecch in the title race.

Marquez’s title defence has not gone well this year, as the reigning world champion currently finds himself fifth in the championship race, 36 points behind the leader, Marco Bezzecchi.

Marquez’s injury issues have held him back, causing him to underperform in several races this season and drop points to his rivals.

Marquez has been unable to hide his concern over his poor start to the season, as the nine-time world champion is struggling to perform at the highest level.

Despite this, members within Aprilia have not written off the Spanish rider just yet, believing that he can turn things around at any point.

Lorenzo Savadori expects Marc Marquez will make the MotoGP title race a ‘close battle’

Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori spoke in an interview with Chiacchere da Box about the MotoGP title race, currently led by Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin.

He claimed that Marc Marquez, despite his injury issues and performances, is still a threat to the Aprilia riders in their quest to win the MotoGP world championship.

“It’s hard to say. Marc is clearly a very strong rider. Let’s just say that his physical condition isn’t there. I don’t know exactly how he is, if he’s 100% or not.

“They say he’s suffering physically. He himself points out that he’s never suffered like this. Yet, I think it will be a close battle (with Bezzecchi and Martin), and in any case, it has always been close or at least he has been in the mix.”

Savadori isn’t the only one to express this sentiment. VR46’s Pablo Nieto called Marquez the rider to beat this season.

Marc Marquez’s future clouds already struggling season

Marquez’s future with Ducati is up in the air as things stand. It was reported earlier this year that Marquez had re-signed with Ducati until 2028.

However, it appears that may not have been the case, as Marquez is reportedly pushing for a 1+1 contract with Ducati.

Despite his strong performances over the last few years, Marquez won’t be Ducati’s highest-paid rider even if he re-signs with the team.

There is a real fear that Marquez could leave Ducati at the end of his contract, marking an end to an incredibly successful tenure with the team.
