Chicho Lorenzo believes Marc Marquez was concerned during the United States Grand Prix, but it had nothing to do with his results.

Marquez’s crash at COTA during FP1 managed to put him in an even tougher position than he was in entering the United States Grand Prix weekend.

Marquez’s crash was allegedly due to cold tyres, raising questions within Ducati about how this even came about.

Many felt Marquez’s long-standing shoulder injury would end up jeopardising the weekend for the reigning world champion.

However, Marquez’s shoulder isn’t his only injury concern after the crash. Perhaps this is why Chicho Lorenzo saw Marc Marquez look concerned at Austin.

Chicho Lorenzo says Marc Marquez was concerned about his performance at COTA

Chicho Lorenzo spoke on the Motogepeando podcast about Marc Marquez and his performance at the United States Grand Prix.

He believes Lorenzo looked very worried during the race about his level of performance, believing that he wasn’t 100%, and still trying to push himself to find form again.

“I could see he was very worried, even in the sprint race. I saw him very worried. He’s not concerned about the outcome. It’s more about his performance, his physical condition.

“We’re seeing that he still hasn’t recovered at all, and he’s having trouble getting back into the swing of things.

“Despite that, watch out for him because even though he lost three seconds in that long lap penalty, he could have gotten himself onto the podium.”

Marc Marquez in dire straits in title race this season

After a dominant championship win last season, Marquez is currently struggling to get things going this season. His injury issues from last year have significantly impacted him this year.

Marquez is currently fifth in the title race, a scathing indictment of the work Ducati have done on their bike this year.

Given his struggles so far, there is talk of Marquez possibly retiring at the end of this year, given his age and his injury struggles.

If Marquez did retire, Ducati have options to replace him. But a difficult performance this season could see the legendary rider walk into the sunset in disappointing fashion.
