Pedro Acosta topped the first free practice session of the 2026 United States Grand Prix following a high-speed crash from Marc Marquez at turn 10.
After a rain-affected session last time out in Brazil, riders and engineers alike rejoiced as the first session of the United States Grand Prix weekend got off to a seamless start.
The grid was quick to get out of the pit-lane and onto the tarmac in Texas, with Pedro Acosta setting the early benchmark after the first round of flying laps ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio.
After just 10 minutes of running, a red flag was called out following an off from Marc Marquez. The reigning world champion lost the front of his Ducati bike over the crest at turn 10 and was sent careening over the gravel and into the barriers.

Inside the United States Grand Prix MotoGP paddock
In the lead-up to the race weekend in Texas, much has been said about Marco Bezzecchi’s title chances.
The Italian arrived in the United States as the championship leader, but Marquez’s status as the ‘King of COTA’ led Neil Hodgson to offer Bezzecchi some advice on how to get the better of the Spaniard.
Further down the pit lane, Maverick Vinales’ future in the premier class is in question. Following his poor start to the 2026 campaign, KTM have reportedly put his move to the factory outfit on hold as they assess other potential options.
Marquez’s future at Ducati has also been in the spotlight. During a conversation with a MotoGP journalist last weekend in Brazil, the seven-time premier class title-winner hinted at a renewal for him at Borgo Panigale not being discussed at this moment.
