Honda are looking to expand in MotoGP by adding another satellite team to their stable next year, and the Japanese constructor have now switched their attention to Tech3 following Gresini’s decision to remain with Ducati.

Despite the 2026 MotoGP campaign still being in its infancy, the grid’s five factory outfits have had a fair share of their focus on the premier class’s new era of technical regulations that is set to take effect in 2027.

The majority of satellite teams will see their current deals run out at the conclusion of 2026, making it paramount that they get a new contract signed as early as possible to give their engineers and rider line-up the maximum time to get accustomed to the new machinery.

Honda were linked with adding the Gresini Racing outfit to their roster following the Italian team’s frustrations with Ducati in recent months. However, the Faenza-based squad has seemingly backed down and is now looking to renew.

Tech3 are looking ‘increasingly attractive’ for Honda as they explore a second satellite MotoGP team

According to a report from Motorsport Italia, the Tech3 MotoGP outfit is becoming ‘increasingly attractive’ for Honda following Gresini’s decision to reportedly remain with Ducati.

During the United States Grand Prix race weekend, team owner Guenther Steiner noted that Tech3 were looking for ‘certain guarantees’ from KTM before renewing their deal. He also noted that he was exploring other avenues for the French racing team.

The report states that Honda are keen to add another team to their umbrella due to the fact that it would ‘broaden’ the number of options they have with rider line-ups.

Fabio Quartararo is currently understood to have a ‘guaranteed seat’ at the factory Honda squad next year, with Luca Marini and Joan Mir’s futures at Asaka still in question.

David Alonso has since been reported to be Quartararo’s teammate for 2027, in what would be a step up from the Moto2 category into his rookie campaign in MotoGP.

Of course, Diogo Moreira is contracted to HRC until 2028, but the remainder of his rookie season will determine whether their gamble on him has paid off or not, and Johann Zarco’s deal is set to run out at the end of next season.

Gresini will be fielding a brand-new line-up in 2027

Gresini’s grievances with Borgo Panigale are understood to have stemmed from Ducati promising VR46 a ‘top rider’ in the form of Fermin Aldeguer during their respective negotiations.

With Aldeguer’s move to VR46 emerging in the ensuing days, it means that Gresini will be fielding a brand-new line-up next year, as Alex Marquez is also expected to leave in favour of a factory ride at KTM.

According to a recent report, Gresini are set to sign Daniel Holgado and Enea Bastianini to lead their charge in 2027, with the former being rated highly as a future star in the premier class.
