Senna Agius is hoping for a move to MotoGP in 2027, but knows he must fight at the front in Moto2.
The 2027 MotoGP grid has been widely discussed during pre-season and the opening round of the 2026 season at the Thailand Grand Prix.
It has been rumoured that multiple MotoGP riders will remain in the premier class but will switch manufacturers for the 2027 season. With reports that Pedro Acosta will move to Ducati, Francesco Bagnaia will move to Aprilia, and Jorge Martin will move to Yamaha.
However, with the current reported rider market, there appears to be minimal room for riders to progress into MotoGP from the Moto2 class. One of the riders that may get missed out in the 2027 rider market is Senna Agius.

Senna Agius knows a MotoGP move will not be ‘handed’ to him
Whilst appearing on Fox Sports In Depth podcast, Senna Agius discussed his targets to move into MotoGP for the 2027 season.
However, the Australian rider knows that he must be at the ‘pointy end’ for the majority of the 2026 Moto2 season to secure his move into the premier class.
Agius stated that remaining at the front in Moto2 in 2026 will be difficult as the middleweight championship is the ‘hardest category’.
Agius said, “For sure, but it all comes down to results. Nothing is going to be handed to you for nothing. So, it’s all about results. Hopefully, there will be a couple of spaces for Moto2 guys.
“We have looked up to these guys in MotoGP, they have been the best in the world for years. But with new rules coming in and riders at different parts of their careers, I believe that Moto2 is the hardest category.
“Some people say it is the hardest because we are all on the same equipment, and the racing is so tight. Ever since the rule changes and the tyre changes it has become a tighter time gap than Moto3, which is absurd.
“It is a tough category and I just want to be there, but nothing is going to be gifted to me, unless I am at the pointy end, so this is what our goals are for this year.”

Yamaha could target a Moto2 rider to partner Jorge Martin
It appears that Jorge Martin will join the factory Yamaha squad for the 2027 season, and with Fabio Quartararo reportedly on his way to Honda next year, there is an open seat at Yamaha.
There have been suggestions that Toprak Razgatlioglu will get promoted from Pramac Yamaha to the Monster Energy Yamaha squad, but there have also been reports Luca Marini will move from Honda to Yamaha.
However, Yamaha have not opted against signing a ‘rare gem’ from the Moto2 World Championship over a current MotoGP rider.
Other than Agius, David Alonso and Daniel Holgado are also riders who have been suggested for moves to MotoGP in 2027. There have been reports that Alonso could move to Honda and partner Quartararo, and Holgado could move to the Tech3 KTM garage.
