Pedro Acosta is rumoured to be joining Ducati in 2027, but after the Thailand Grand Prix, Pit Beirer is holding out hope that he will stay at KTM.

After trying to break his contract midway through 2025, the Spaniard was heavily rumoured to be leaving KTM at the end of 2026. With the chaos of the MotoGP rider market, it appears that Acosta is already on the way out.

Reports are suggesting that Acosta is joining Ducati in 2027, partnering with Marc Marquez. But the 2026 Thailand Grand Prix has given KTM some renewed hope that he will stay put after battling with the Borgo Panigale outfit all weekend.

Acosta won his first MotoGP race in Buriram, claiming victory in the Sprint over Marquez in controversial fashion. The Ducati rider was penalised for a late lunge on his fellow compatriot and was forced to hand the win to him.

Acosta did not feel like a winner due to the controversy, but he did not let that get in the way of his race on Sunday. He fought hard with Marquez throughout the race and finished P2 behind Marco Bezzecchi.

Pit Beirer has not ‘given up’ on Pedro Acosta staying at KTM

Acosta leads the championship heading into the next race at Goiania. It is very early days in the season, but KTM boss Beirer is encouraged by the Thailand GP and hopes that it will keep his star rider on board for 2027.

Speaking to Speedweek, he said: “Pedro’s big vision is, of course, to beat Marc. That’s his top priority – and he achieved that in Thailand on his own merit with our motorcycle.

“That’s also why we haven’t given up on the idea of Pedro riding for KTM in 2027 – as we all know, giving up isn’t our strongest suit.”

“The motto remains the same: all-in for 2026. That’s all that matters. The entire team is focused on nothing else.”

Alberto Puig says Pedro Acosta is making a ‘brave’ move joining Ducati

Acosta beat the highest-ranked Ducati, Fabio Di Giannantonio, by over 11 seconds in Thailand. The race marked the first time in 89 races that the Borgo Panigale outfit did not have a rider on the podium.

The Spaniard can be very positive about his weekend and his RC16, which he is using to battle amongst the frontrunners. Yet, if reports are to be believed, Acosta is Ducati-bound next year.

Was Marc Marquez’s dig at Pedro Acosta really necessary?

Acosta told reporters in Thailand that 'it wasn't a one-day [championship] lead like Marc said'.

Honda boss Alberto Puig says Acosta is making a ‘brave’ move joining the Bologna Bullets. He is sure to meet his match against Marquez, who is set to extend his contract.

Puig puts Acosta in the same category as Marquez in terms of ability. At just 21 years old, he has a long career ahead of him, and he is sure to give the nine-time champion a run for his money.
