The Japanese giants have been looking to make huge moves on the MotoGP rider market since last year. Honda tried to sign Jorge Martin during his contract dispute with Aprilia for 2026, but Dorna’s intervention prevented a deal.
In 2026, the team have moved on to other targets. Joan Mir and Luca Marini have retained their seats at HRC this year, but in 2027, they could have an all-new pairing.

Alonso won a staggering 14 out of 20 races to win the Moto3 title in 2024, before finishing ninth in his first season in Moto2 last year, scoring one win and five podiums.
He is sure to be a title contender in 2026, and winning it would certainly put him on track for MotoGP in 2027. Honda seem to hold Alonso in high regard, and the 19-year-old looks to be ahead of their current riders for a seat next year.

Alonso’s salary demands are too high for Ducati, as they are 10 times what they are willing to pay. It could be an advantage for Honda, given that they will have more financial power.
Ducati feel Alonso picked the ‘wrong manager’ due to his wage demands. There is no question that he is a top talent, but it might prove costly for his MotoGP chances.
