Jorge Martin may already be regretting his decision to join Yamaha in 2027 after watching them in action at the Thailand Grand Prix.
Rumours are suggesting that Martin is set to join Yamaha next year, replacing the outgoing Fabio Quartararo, who is signing for Honda. He looks to have already confirmed his Aprilia exit after a turbulent 12 months.
Yamaha move to replace Fabio Quartararo immediately! 🔥 Is this a smart move by Jorge Martin? 🤔
Let us know in the comments below!
The 2024 champion barely competed in 2025 after he suffered severe injuries throughout the season. He had tried to break his contract earlier in the year, and after Aprilia delayed Martin’s contract offer for 2027, he jumped at the chance to join Yamaha.
However, the Thailand Grand Prix showed that Aprilia and Yamaha are at two completely different ends of the pecking order in MotoGP, and Martin might now be having doubts about his latest move.

Jorge Martin had ‘serious doubts’ about whether Yamaha is the right career move in Thailand
Martin enjoyed a strong weekend in Thailand, finishing an impressive P4. Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi won the Thailand GP in commanding fashion, while Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez and Ai Ogura finished in the top five, the former on the podium.
Rivals Ducati were nowhere to be seen as they finished 16 seconds behind Bezzecchi, with Marc Marquez retiring with a rear rim failure. Aprilia were in dreamland and have clearly taken a step forward in 2026, but Yamaha are in crisis.
The Iwata outfit were 30 seconds behind Aprilia, with Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins finishing 14th and 15th, respectively. They have encountered issues with the V4 throughout 2026, and it is not what Martin will want to see.
At this stage, leaving Aprilia for Yamaha looks like giving up arguably the best bike on the grid for the worst, and the 27-year-old seems to have the same thoughts. A report from Motorsport Espana notes Martin had ‘serious doubts’ about his decision for 2027.
He was questioning if joining Yamaha was the right move for his career, especially when Aprilia are in a position to regularly challenge Ducati for wins, and possibly the championship.

Yamaha are set to face even more problems with the V4 engine
Yamaha’s pace deficit to the rest of the field in Buriram was alarming. They looked desperately uncompetitive, as they walked away with three points after spending the entire weekend at the back.
The Iwata outfit had a media blackout after the race, with only team principal Paolo Pavesio speaking to journalists. Yamaha feared a ‘big mess’ from Quartararo if he had spoken to the media, given the frustration he has shown towards the manufacturer.
Will Fabio Quartararo see out the 2026 season with Yamaha?
The troubling thing is, it could be about to get much worse for the team. Yamaha are now fearing pit lane starts due to the V4’s unreliability.
It all points towards Martin making a huge mistake, jumping the gun on the MotoGP rider market and signing with Yamaha, especially when he has a competitive bike at Aprilia.
