Alex Marquez and Marc Marquez made history last year as they became the first brothers to finish one-two in the MotoGP standings. With a new season on the horizon, the Gresini star is adamant that he now has what it takes to go all the way and secure a title for himself.
From the very first race of the season last year, the front two positions of the MotoGP grid were dominated by the Marquez brothers.
In fact, the positions they started the year in were also the positions that they ended the campaign in, with Marc Marquez securing his seventh world title in the premier class, while Alex Marquez enjoyed his best-ever finishing position over the course of a full MotoGP season.
The two Spaniards were inseparable as the term ticked on, both figuratively and literally. Both Marquez brothers trained together regularly, with Marc revealing how essential Alex was to his training during the height of last year’s campaign.
However, having long raced in the shadow of his highly successful older brother, Alex is keen on securing a premier class title for himself. As a champion in both Moto3 and Moto2, he certainly has what it takes to get the job done.

Alex Marquez issues verdict on whether he is ready to put up a genuine fight for the MotoGP title this year
During an interview with journalists following the conclusion of MotoGP’s final pre-season test in Buriram, Marquez responded to a query regarding the expectations he is entering this season compared to last year.
The Gresini star revealed the confidence he gained from finishing as the runner-up this year, highlighting his newfound belief that he can go on and potentially win a title this year.
He said via Motosan, “I don’t feel any pressure, I feel more confident. I know I’ll find myself in a situation I’ve been in before. Last year wasn’t like that; everything was completely new to me.
“It’s not normal to go from eighth place last season to starting the year trying to fight for the title. I wasn’t prepared for this. I didn’t have the level or experience in MotoGP to handle those situations well, and I think I paid the price at a certain point in the season.
“Now I feel more prepared than last year. The season is very long, and every detail will be important to manage it properly.”
After watching his breakout season last year from the commentary box, Neil Hodgson named Alex to be Marc’s closest title rival in the upcoming campaign, citing him as one of the most underrated riders currently on the premier class grid.

Alex Marquez has been rumoured to have finalised a deal with KTM for the 2027 MotoGP season
Despite the Gresini star finding his feet in the premier class at the Italian satellite team, reports from Spain have suggested that Alex Marquez will be joining KTM in place of Pedro Acosta for the 2027 MotoGP season.
Acosta is understood to be on his way out of the Austrian constructor in favour of the factory Ducati outfit, with Marquez’s teammate at KTM likely to be Maverick Vinales.
It marks quite the change for the 29-year-old, especially considering the current gap between Ducati machinery and that of KTM.
However, with a new set of technical regulations expected to shake up the pecking order of the grid next year, it remains to be seen which brand will emerge with the fastest prototype.
