The Marquez brothers have commanded the field in the 2025 MotoGP season. Alex Marquez has been brother Marc’s closest competitor as the Ducati rider searches for a seventh title.
The siblings have been a regular force at the front this season, with the pair grabbing three 1-2 finishes thus far. They have been even more dominant in the Sprints, having finished first and second in all of the opening eight events.
Marc Marquez holds a 32-point lead over his brother, having grabbed 11 out of a possible 16 races in 2025. Despite his dominance, the 32-year-old is being closely followed by Alex Marquez, who has only finished outside the top two three times this season.
This is surprising, given that he is riding the year-old GP24. However, the difference between last year’s bike and the GP25 is minimal, with Francesco Bagnaia and Fabio Di Giannantonio struggling to perform on the new factory machine.
His consistency has kept him in the championship fight, with Alex Marquez claiming his first MotoGP win at Jerez after more than 90 Grand Prix in the premier class. The Gresini rider is proving key for brother Marc in his preparations at Ducati.

Marc Marquez says brother Alex Marquez is ‘essential’ to his training at Ducati
The Marquez brothers have shared a strong relationship on and off the track, having been teammates at Honda, albeit briefly due to Marc’s injuries, in 2020 and at Gresini in 2024. Now championship contenders, Marc Marquez is ‘even more tight’ with Alex.
Speaking via Technogym, Marc explained that Alex is ‘essential’ to his training behind the scenes. He feels ‘very lucky’ to have his brother by his side.
“With my brother, I feel very lucky, because I get to choose what I enjoy most and at the same time, it’s essential for my training,” he said.
“I get to do it with my brother, who is not just family but also my training partner, my friend. I really enjoy cycling and I also love understanding exactly what my sport requires.
“We usually train for two or three hours. Could we train even more? Sure, but in our sport, it’s the trainer who sets the limits.”

Can Alex Marquez mount a serious challenge to Marc Marquez in 2025?
Being only 32 points behind, Alex Marquez does have a chance to claim his maiden MotoGP title. With Marc having already established himself as a legend in the sport, his family wants to see a different outcome in 2025.
Marc Marquez’s mother wants him to ‘let’ Alex win the title and shut down the narrative that he is only in MotoGP because of his brother. But the Ducati rider will certainly not want to give up his championship to Alex, especially when he can match arch rival Valentino Rossi’s record of seven titles this season.
Ultimately, while the GP24 was, and still is, a fiercely competitive bike, Ducati will roll out upgrades the factory GP25 riders. This is where Marc Marquez will have the advantage, given he will be prioritised with the new parts.
Marc has told Ducati not to give Alex new parts, stating that nothing should be given away. This marks a change of tone from the Spaniard, having previously hinted that Luigi Dall’Igna could reward Alex Marquez with upgrades if he performs well.
