Alex Marquez has his sights on a factory seat for the 2027 MotoGP season, but it looks as though he will not get it with Ducati.
Marquez will have a factory bike in 2026 after his impressive season with Gresini last year. He won his first three MotoGP races and finished runner-up to his brother, Marc Marquez, marking his best season to date.
Can Alex Marquez fight Marc Marquez for the 2026 MotoGP title?
Gresini have given Alex Marquez the tools to perform in MotoGP and he is happy within the team. But with contracts expiring in 2026, he has been open about his desire to race for a factory team.
Many have wondered if the Spaniard would be in consideration for a seat with the Bologna Bullets in 2027. However, that does not seem likely, as Marc Marquez looks to have extended his contract, while Ducati are said to have signed Pedro Acosta from KTM.
Carlo Pernat can only see Alex Marquez joining Ducati if Marc Marquez retires from MotoGP
Carlo Pernat does not hold much hope for Alex Marquez getting a seat at Ducati. So much so that he only sees him joining the team when his brother decides to retire from MotoGP.
Pernat was discussing the rider market via MOW when he was asked about KTM and their situation with Acosta: “There’s a situation that needs clarification there. Right now, it seems like they have the money to secure a great future, but they’ve hinted as much in the past, only to later discover otherwise.
“I think they’ve lost Pedro Acosta and will only get him back if this year’s bike proves to be a rocket, twice as fast as the others, but we know that’s impossible.
When do you think Marc Marquez will retire from MotoGP?
“Maverick Viñales is fired up, and they’ll certainly bet on him, but I think KTM’s real target could be Alex Marquez, who deserves a factory bike anyway.”
He then added: “Ducati would certainly give him one, but they only have two red Desmosedicis. There’s already a half-agreement with Fermin Aldeguer, Pedro Acosta is itching to sign him, and there’s a few youngsters Dall’Igna has his eye on.
“In short, I can only see Alex Marquez on the red Ducati if Marc stops, so either Alex will have to wait a couple of years, or I think he’ll try his luck elsewhere.”

Alex Marquez looks to have joined KTM
It seems that the Gresini rider has already decided on his MotoGP future. Reports have suggested that Marquez will join KTM in 2027 after finalising a two-year contract.
The Spaniard was looking at several factories for next season, with Yamaha also being an option. But it appears that he has settled for a move to Austria.
Marquez looks set to replace Acosta as his fellow countryman moves to Ducati alongside his brother. It is a bold decision, especially since KTM have not won a race since 2022.
But with the team already working on their 850cc bike for 2027, they could be a competitive force next year, and it seems to have been enough to convince Marquez to leave Ducati.
