Fabio Quartararo has just ignited the 2027 MotoGP rider market with a massive first move. While the Frenchman’s future is now clear, his decision has created a golden opportunity for Toprak Razgatlioglu to claim a factory seat.
Following years of disappointment at Yamaha, Fabio Quartararo has agreed to join Honda for the 2027 premier class campaign on a two-year contract.
While an exit for the Frenchman was expected, such an early confirmation is still rather shocking given that Yamaha’s new V4-powered bike, which was pushed for heavily by Quartararo, is yet to get some racing action in 2026.
Honda are unsure of who they want to partner with Quartararo in MotoGP’s new era of regulations at this moment in time, and Yamaha have already made a move to sign Jorge Martin to replace the 26-year-old.

Toprak Razgatlioglu can now step up as a leader at Yamaha following Fabio Quartararo’s exit in 2027
It is understood that Quartararo’s move in the rider market now has two ramifications for both Honda and Yamaha.
First of all, Honda have been linked with a swathe of names ahead of the new regulatory era, including Jorge Martin, Pedro Acosta and even Marc Marquez.
However, an agreement is already in place for Diogo Moreira to join the factory team in 2027, providing his rookie campaign with the LCR outfit goes well this year.
On the other side of things, Yamaha are also very keen on promoting Toprak Razgatlioglu to the factory team if his maiden season is a success with Pramac.
In fact, Quartararo’s exit only makes a potential move up for the Turkish rider all the more possible. It has been suggested that Alex Rins has a slim chance of securing a new deal with the team, meaning Yamaha are theoretically now looking at a brand new rider line-up for 2027.
The only thing that is left to do is await the results of Razgatlioglu in the upcoming term. If he manages to impress, then Yamaha certainly have nothing to worry about in the future.

Wow! Did you see this one coming?
Jack Miller’s future in MotoGP has also received a boost following confirmation of a Fabio Quartararo exit
Another rider in the Yamaha stable who will be thrilled by the recent news is Jack Miller, who managed to secure a seat on the 2026 MotoGP by the skin of his teeth last year.
Yamaha’s V4 project was the Australian’s saving grace, and there has already been talk of Yamaha lining up a Miller replacement for 2027.
However, the Japanese constructor’s future plans would have had Quartararo in mind, and they will need to make sure they have someone with credible experience in the rider line-up to keep Yamaha’s future plans in check.
Miller has outlined his plan to be Yamaha’s ‘best rider’ in the upcoming season, and if he is successful in his endeavour, then they couldn’t possibly look to gain from an outside rider for the following campaign.
