Pit Beirer reveals whether he expects Pedro Acosta will discuss his ‘future’ with KTM

It may seem almost inevitable that Pedro Acosta’s time with KTM is coming to an end, but there’s still a slim chance that might not be the case.

What if they turn things around and become challengers for the MotoGP title this year? Wouldn’t it be hard to leave the only team he has ever known after reaching such a high?

Of course, that’s all hypothetical, and the rider market for 2027 will have taken shape by then, but never say never.

Acosta built some momentum with KTM towards the end of last year, and that will have given him some food for thought.

KTM have decided Maverick Vinales will replace Acosta, in the event that the Spaniard does decide to depart.

On the other side of the garage, KTM could replace Brad Binder with ‘young talent’ in a bid to refresh their rider line-up for the new regulations. There could be a lot of change.

Pit Beirer expects a ‘chance’ to speak with Pedro Acosta about his KTM future

Acosta issued a blunt response to Ducati links and declared that he already has enough to worry about without considering his future right now.

At the same time, Luigi Dall’Igna wants to ‘close’ Acosta negotiations and lock him down to ride next to Marc Marquez from 2027.

It would form a bit of a super team, but first, KTM boss Pit Beirer at least wants the chance to talk to his rider about his future before he decides to move on.

“We haven’t done enough yet because we still have to prove ourselves,” Beirer told GPOne. “I think the end of last year gave him confidence, but it’s no secret that he expects another step forward from the bike.

“We have a clear plan for the start of the season and for how we’ll approach the Sepang tests. I’m sure those tests will be as important for us as they are for Pedro. I’m confident we’ll bring the results from this winter and then talk to the riders about the future.

“I’d rather not do it now because they expect a step forward from us. We promised it, and we’ve worked hard. Now it’s about putting in some good laps at the tests.

“But the rider’s feeling when he jumps on the bike will be important, not just the lap times. There are some problems we needed to fix, and we did, so I feel we’ll have the chance to talk about the future with Acosta too.”

Why is there so much hype around Pedro Acosta?

For a man who has never won a MotoGP race, Acosta sure attracts a lot of attention from fans and the media.

The interest he gets from rival teams is also a strong indication of what he’s capable of, and suggests that any hype is warranted.

He has deserved to win a handful of events now, but it just hasn’t fallen his way. In his two seasons competing, he’s usually left to defend, rather than attack at the end of races.

But the Murcian is going to get his chance. When he does, he’s going to take it, and it’s very possible that he could go on to win multiple world titles.
