Luigi Dall’Igna is always going to find a way to create a fast motorcycle. For 2027, whoever gets to ride his Ducati offering will be in for a treat.

The expectation is that Marc Marquez will remain at the Borgo Panigale outfit for at least another 12 months beyond this season, as new regulations beckon.

But, he may have a new teammate, with Ducati bound to explore some options within the MotoGP rider market to potentially replace Francesco Bagnaia.

One of those riders is KTM’s Pedro Acosta. He has proven on below-par machinery that he can deliver. He has earned his chance to win.

Is there a better rider for Ducati to sign?

Acosta is happy to accept ‘whatever’ Ducati offer him just to join the team in 2027, and doesn’t seem too bothered about the financial details in any deal.

Not long ago, Luigi Dall’Igna named Acosta as his dream signing if he was able to run a third bike, so all the signs are pointing in one direction.

Luigi Dall’Igna wants to ‘close’ Ducati negotiations with Pedro Acosta for 2027

Honda could offer Acosta ‘a big stack of money’ and the chance to be set for life, but he would be taking on a completely different project for 2027.

There would be a much higher risk that he ends up wasting some of the best years of his career chasing an end goal that would be much more achievable at Ducati.

Acosta may sign with VR46 to get a feel for a Ducati bike before moving on to the factory team. It depends on how patient he’s willing to be, and who’s prepared to take a gamble.

The Italian edition of Motorsport.com, design genius Dall’Igna wants to ‘close’ negotiations with Acosta as soon as possible.

What would be the benefit of doing that? It protects him from being courted by their rivals, who may be able to make other promises to him.

It also gives the Italian outfit more time to prepare for his arrival and gives them a chance to take advantage of any extra interest his presence may create.

How would a Pedro Acosta and Marc Marquez partnership work at Ducati?

Marquez doesn’t think Acosta can win in 2026, and has removed him from any consideration in his mind that he might be a threat to him.

That isn’t a knock on his talent, and more of a reflection of the tools he’s going to have at his disposal over the 22-race campaign.

But if they were teammates in 2027, how would it work? Marc will have been with Ducati for two years and would be top dog.

That won’t matter too much to Acosta, who just wants a shot at winning. It could end up producing an all-time partnership.
