He may be walking into a complete unknown, but Toprak Razgatlioglu has ambitious targets in MotoGP, especially with the rule changes in 2027.

In 2026, the WSBK star is realistic about his chances in MotoGP. After all, he is joining Yamaha, who finished last in 2025, in a transitional period as they develop a V4 engine.

He will have to adapt to an entirely new bike, paddock and tyre, with Michelin being MotoGP’s tyre supplier until 2027. Razgatlioglu knows he could be fighting for 15th in his debut season with Pramac alongside Jack Miller.

But 2027 presents an opportunity for the Turkish rider as the bikes go from 1000cc to 850cc, plus Pirelli, WSBK’s tyre supplier, comes to MotoGP. Many believe that this could give Razgatlioglu an advantage, and he has set personal goals.

Razgatlioglu wants to fight Marc Marquez in 2027 and compete for the championship. The new rules could shake up the pecking order and put him in a position to win the title, but the Ducati rider may have a way to nullify him.

Toprak Razgatlioglu thinks MotoGP riders will find it ‘easy’ to adapt to Pirelli tyres

While it may seem that the regulation changes will be more suited to the Pramac rider, Pirelli’s director doubts Razgatlioglu will have an advantage in 2027.

The 29-year-old agrees, as he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. He instead said that the Pirelli tyre will make it easier for him to ride the bike, but that also goes for the rest of the grid.

“Maybe, better we don’t say advantage, but maybe I’m riding more easy, because I know the Pirelli tyre,” he said. “Because also, the other MotoGP riders are very experienced riders, and also they’re very fast riders. I think it’s easy to adapt to tyres.

“But I know the Pirelli tyres, easy to ride maybe, easy to start. But I say, 2027, I’m getting more strong, not only tyres but also the bike is very important.

“But I believe the Yamaha [will be] getting more stronger in 2027, because they’re new for everyone. They’re new engines for everyone and also the tyre is completely different. But 2027, I think Yamaha will come back more strong and I hope I’m doing some special races.”

With the Pirelli tyre being ‘easy’ to adapt to, Marquez will surely be able to maintain his advantage and stop any charge for Razgatlioglu. He will certainly put up a fight, but the Spaniard’s experience and talent could outshine the WSBK star.

How Marc Marquez could help Toprak Razgatlioglu earn a promotion to the factory Yamaha team

The two riders have been in close contact for some time ahead of 2026. Razgatlioglu had private phonecalls with Marquez before his move to MotoGP, expressing his excitement about the opportunity and battling him.

Marquez congratulated Razgatlioglu on his third WSBK title in 2025. The pair seem to have a good relationship already, and they could become strong rivals on the track.

They could also help each other on their respective paths. Marquez could help Razgatlioglu join Yamaha, as Red Bull, who back the Turkish rider, are supposedly planning to sponsor Ducati.

Rivals Monster currently sponsor Yamaha, thus denying a move for Razgatlioglu. If Marquez were to return to Red Bull, it could open the door for the Pramac rider to cut ties and move up to the main team.
