Alex Marquez has long competed in the shadow of his seven-time MotoGP world champion brother, Marc Marquez, but that hasn’t stopped him from sharing some wisdom with him.

The brotherly duo of Alex Marquez and Marc Marquez set records in 2025 that are unlikely to ever be replicated in the future of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

Their one-two finish in the MotoGP standings marked the first time that a set of brothers had dominated proceedings, and they often took the chequered flag in a similar formation on race weekends.

One of the key factors in Marc’s return to dominance during the recently concluded campaign was having Alex as a staunch ally in between the different events.

The brothers often train together, pushing each other to find an extra tenth in the ever-competitive landscape of brotherly superiority.

Alex Marquez reveals what Marc Marquez has learnt from him in recent MotoGP seasons

During a recent interview with La Sexta, Alex was asked a multitude of questions about his breakout season with Gresini in 2025, as well as the level of competition between himself and his world-beating brother.

As the older and more successful brother, it’s natural to think that Alex learns from Marc and not the other way around, but the 29-year-old has revealed how he has helped the seven-time world champion by instilling some rationale into him.

The Gresini star said, “I think Marc has learned tranquillity from me. He’s always told me that I think more rationally.

“He’s more passionate, and that’s why we complement each other so well. These two slightly different mindsets are what make us complement each other so well.

“I am prudent, but because life has taught me that having very high expectations leads to frustration when you don’t achieve them.

“I’m one of those who thinks about taking things one step at a time, but I don’t start a year thinking about winning, no matter what.”

Does Alex Marquez have the right mindset to be Marc Marquez’s teammate?

“The bad thing [about being Marc Marquez’s teammate] is the pressure and how the people who have you more in a magnifying glass look at you.”

Alex Marquez also likened Marc Marquez to a chameleon in verdict on why he is ‘so difficult’ to compete against

Regarding the unprecedented level of success that the two brothers experienced during the 2025 MotoGP campaign, Alex highlighted how difficult it is for him to come out on top against his brother in the race to the chequered flag.

The interview took place during a celebratory event in their native Catalan village, a common happening given Marc’s superiority in the premier class since his 2013 debut.

Alex said, “Luckily, we’ve come here to the village for many years to celebrate titles, but I think this year is unique.

“Marc and I agreed that ‘historic’ is a word we don’t like. Historic is like something old, from the past, but we’re in the present. So, unique.”

He then added, “Beating Marc is a big deal; he’s like a chameleon. He keeps changing.

“I mean, on the track, you see him struggling, but he has that drive to overcome challenges that pushes you to the very limit. And that makes it very difficult. It’s very difficult to compete against him.”
