Alex Marquez has been the closest competitor to Marc Marquez in the Ducati rider’s dominant 2025 MotoGP season, with Marc holding an edge over Alex due to being atop the factory spec GP25.

The Marquez brothers could make MotoGP history by becoming the first brothers in any form of motorsport to complete a one-two finish in the championship standings if the pecking order remains the same at the end of the season.

With seven rounds of racing still left to be contested, Marc could tie up the MotoGP title at the home of his former Honda team at Motegi. It was possible for him to secure the championship as early as the current race weekend in Misano.

However, Marc may be relieved not to secure it at Valentino Rossi’s home race, in fear of the events of 2015 being brought up yet again as their fierce rivalry continues to boil.

Marc Marquez’s ability to perform well at his difficult circuits makes Alex Marquez ‘envy’ him

Speaking to journalists at Misano on Thursday afternoon ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix, Alex was asked about what it meant to him to beat his brother after losing out on the Sprint race victory to him on the day before.

“For me, it was important to win that race after making a big mistake in the sprint,” Alex answered via GPOne. “Marc is very fast this year. He’s unbelievable. He was coming from seven wins in a row, and that can strike you.

“Beating him was a boost for me. It gave me the knowledge that I could do it, even though Barcelona is a track where he always struggled.

“He’s Marc. It was special, very nice for me to be in front of an eight-time world champion, but especially one who’s having an incredible moment.”

The Gresini rider was then asked about what it is like to face his older brother on track, to which he replied, “Marc is so much superior this year that he can win even in the circuits where he struggles, while there’s nothing to do going against him in those where he’s strong.

“I envy him. I’d also like to fight for victory on a difficult circuit.”

Alex Marquez also responded to claims about Marc Marquez letting him win at Barcelona

Marc issued a response to critics who felt like he may have given up the Grand Prix win at Barcelona in order to delay his clinching of the 2025 title until after the San Marino GP.

Alex was asked about his brother’s comments in the same press conference, to which he replied, via GPOne, “That’s all I have to say as well. I don’t want to waste a single second of my life responding to certain things.

“They’re people who just want to talk. They say what they want.”

It was clear to see that the Gresini man was the more dominant of the Marquez brothers at the Montmelo-based circuit.

Alex smashed the lap record during qualifying at Barcelona as he set a pole position lap that was nearly three-tenths faster than Fabio Quartararo in second. Marc was four-tenths behind him and started from third place.
