Fermin Aldeguer is looking to make a natural step up in MotoGP in 2027 as he eyes the factory red of Ducati.

The Spaniard enjoyed a strong rookie season in 2025, winning his maiden race in Indonesia. He finished eighth in the standings, the lowest-ranked Ducati rider, and collected the Rookie of the Year award.

Heading into 2026, Aldeguer hoped to secure a factory bike. After all, he has a direct contract to the Borgo Panigale outfit, but instead, it would go to his Gresini teammate, Alex Marquez.

The 29-year-old finished P2 in the standings behind brother Marc Marquez, winning his first three races in MotoGP. His performances more than merited a GP26 next season, but Aldeguer believes he ‘deserved’ a factory Ducati in 2026 after his teammate got one instead.

Fermin Aldeguer says Alex Marquez’s pressure in 2026 could help him get a factory Ducati bike in 2027

Riding the GP25 in 2026, the 20-year-old is looking to make an impression on the Ducati factory. Aldeguer has changed his tone on joining Ducati and replacing Francesco Bagnaia in 2027, as he is now just prioritising a factory bike.

Gresini were given a factory slot for their performances in 2025, and the Spaniard has explained how his teammate could help him secure one in 2027 if he struggles to deliver results.

Speaking to AS about his chances of joining Ducati, he said: “I have the opportunity because I have a contract with Ducati. And it would be the right step, but I have to earn it with results and show that I’m ready to go to the factory team.”

Asked if Alex Marquez could hinder him by having a factory bike, he replied: “Or it could benefit me. Now he’ll have the added pressure of working with the factory bike, which has many good things, but he’ll have to adapt. I hope he does well; he’s my teammate.”

Fermin Aldeguer knows he’s under pressure to secure a Ducati seat in 2027

Of course, Aldeguer would love to race in red in MotoGP and Ducati view him as a star of the future. But he is not the only rider in the conversation for a seat in 2027, with Pedro Acosta being heavily linked with Ducati, as well as Fabio Quartararo.

He added: “There are many more people. You could say we’re the top contenders because we’re part of the factory team.

“But who wouldn’t bet on a Quartararo or an Acosta, for example? They’re very fast riders, and maybe their bikes aren’t up to par. But we’re the closest.”

While he has the best chance to join the team, as he is already part of the Borgo Panigale family, he knows it could also come to an end quickly. Aldeguer knows Ducati could drop him in 2026 if he does not perform, as he has a two-plus-two arrangement.
