Fermin Aldeguer is one of the latest Spanish sensations to slot onto the MotoGP grid after needing a rather unusual route to reach the premier class of motorcycle racing.
A career in MotoGP seemed entirely out of reach for Aldeguer at the end of 2019 having run out of money and options to continue. But, only five years later, a future in the premier class was his as Ducati signed Aldeguer to a factory rider contract to debut with Gresini in 2025.
Ducati took a liking to the Spaniard following his breakout season in Moto2 during the 2023 campaign. The Borgo Panigale brand even wasted no time to sign Aldeguer to a factory deal just one round into the 2024 intermediate class season, before sourcing him a MotoGP bike.

Fermin Aldeguer’s MotoGP hopes were in tatters after a Moto3 deal fell through
Aldeguer started his motorcycle racing career at just two years old riding a miniature bike he called ‘la Bicha’. Competitive racing then followed after Aldeguer turned six and a debut title arrived at nine in the Levante MiniGP 110 Cup. He would go on to enjoy a vivid junior career.
MiniGP 140 plus MaxiGP 220 XL titles in the Champion of the Levante plus Murcian Regional Cup followed for Aldeguer aged 11. The next year also delivered PreMoto4 trophies over the Levante and Murcian Regional Cups plus the Cuna de Campeones as Aldeguer rose through the tiers.
A move to the European Talent Cup also arrived at Aldeguer’s door in 2018, with him even taking a podium on his debut at Estoril. Yet seven consecutive retirements followed, before later claiming another podium with P3 at the Circuito de Albacete to end the season 10th overall.
Wins in the European Talent Cup remained out of Aldeguer’s reach in 2019 but he improved greatly to finish all 10 races the Spaniard entered. He even claimed P2 finishes at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo (twice) plus the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to take third in the standings.
But just as Aldeguer’s rise towards MotoGP was starting to gain traction as he chased a step up to Moto3, the Spaniard faced the door being slammed in his face. Aldeguer saw a deal to join the lightweight class collapse at the last moment and his bid to race in Moto3 was over.
Hector Faubel and Speed Up Racing saved Fermin Aldeguer’s record-breaking career

Former Grand Prix winner Hector Faubel stepped in and saved Aldeguer’s career, though, as he sourced a lifeline in the European Superstock 600 Championship riding a Yamaha. Faubel also started managing and coaching Aldeguer, who got the title with seven wins in 11 races.
Yet a chance to join the world championship was still off the table. But Speed Up took notice of Aldeguer’s Stock600 title and offered a European Moto2 ride for 2021. It marked the start of a fruitful union, with Aldeguer winning the CEV Moto2 title with nine wins in his 11 races.
At just 16 years old, Aldeguer shattered the CEV Moto2 record book with nine wins back-to-back to start the 2021 season and become the series’ youngest-ever champion. Speed Up would also take Aldeguer to the Moto2 world championship as a replacement rider in 2021.
World championship records even tumbled as Aldeguer secured a full-season Moto2 ride for 2022 with Speed Up, scoring his maiden pole position in round three at the Argentina Grand Prix. Still just 16, Aldeguer became the youngest ever rider to get an intermediate class pole.
Speed Up also retained Aldeguer for the 2023 Moto2 season and saw the Spaniard score his maiden intermediate class win at the British Grand Prix. He even finished the year with four straight wins in Thailand, Malaysia, Qatar, and Valencia, a feat not seen in Moto2 since 2010.
Ducati signed Fermin Aldeguer after claims he could replace Marc Marquez at Honda
His breakout Moto2 season in 2023 even saw Aldeguer emerge as an option to replace Marc Marquez in the vacant factory Honda ride alongside Joan Mir for 2024. But while Aldeguer’s camp claimed they held talks with Honda, HRC chief Alberto Puig rubbished the indications.
But every MotoGP factory team was starting to consider Aldeguer for a future premier class ride after sealing third in the 2023 Moto2 standings. In the end, Ducati jumped the queue to sign Aldeguer in March 2024. But he failed to back it up with a Moto2 title push that season.
Aldeguer struggled to back up his factory Ducati MotoGP contract in Moto2 during 2024 as the pre-season title favourite. The pressure of it all helped to create several mistakes and he struggled with the new Pirelli tyres, yet still won races at Jerez, Silverstone and Philip Island.
With Ducati promoting Marquez from Gresini into their factory rider line-up for 2025 beside Francesco Bagnaia, fate also materialised one year late as Aldeguer replaced his compatriot at the Italian team. Aldeguer was due to join Pramac before they ditched Ducati for Yamaha.
So, with that in mind, MotoGP News has taken a look into everything that you need to know about Aldeguer – including the Spaniard’s height in feet plus his recent former girlfriends…
