Jack Miller will be back in 2026 for his 12th consecutive MotoGP campaign, and his second on a Yamaha bike.

The Aussie had a turbulent debut campaign with the Japanese manufacturer, as they navigated their way through the first year of a new satellite partnership with Pramac.

Although they finished bottom of the MotoGP teams’ standings, there were encouraging signs towards the end of the campaign.

The new V4 engine is on its way, which Miller has experience in dealing with. He’ll be tasked with leading their development drive over the next few months.

Miller already has competition for 2027 and needs to produce better performances next year if he wants to keep his premier class career going.

But he should be in a better position. Miller has gained feedback and stability with Yamaha’s V4 engine and just needs a little more power, in his opinion, to compete.

Jack Miller helped Yamaha change their MotoGP setups ‘dramatically’ in 2025

Speaking about the changes he made for Yamaha this year, the setup of his bike was among the top of the list. Miller told Crash that the process has been altered ‘dramatically’.

“I think with the information I was able to bring across from another manufacturer, I think it stopped them working in, let’s say, the direction that they were,” he said.

“The bike, in terms of setup and stuff like that, has changed dramatically in the past 12 months, just the way they approach the weekend, base setup and all that.”

Miller nearly left MotoGP at the end of 2024, but was handed a one-year lifeline. His saving grace was his experience.

Realistically, he’s not around to win races or championships, but to help put his team in a position to do that in the future.

Next year, he also has a rookie teammate in the form of Toprak Razgatlioglu. It’ll be his job to help train him up.

What does Jack Miller want to see most from Yamaha’s V4 engine?

Yamaha’s superstar rider is quite clearly Fabio Quartararo. However, he has been on an M1 bike for his whole career. He knows what an inline four engine feels like, only.

The demands could change in the future, with new regulations looming for 2027. The tables could flip yet again.

But for now, it’s the V4 which promises a better chance of winning, and Miller has by far the most experience on one of the four Yamaha riders.

Miller wants more horsepower from Yamaha’s V4. It’s one of the main areas he has identified, and still believes that they lack in.
