Pedro Acosta has now ‘signed’ his 2027 MotoGP contract, ‘he’s already locked in’

Pedro Acosta has reportedly made a decision about his MotoGP future beyond 2026. KTM have been trying desperately to convince him to stay.

Acosta is arguably the most exciting talent to break into MotoGP since Marc Marquez in 2013. He hasn’t yet won a premier class race, but arguably hasn’t had the machinery to do so.

Only Colin Edwards has bagged more podiums without winning a race than Acosta (12 vs 10). The Spaniard finished fourth in the 2025 championship with every other KTM rider outside the top 10.

KTM have already fired up their 2027 bike, perhaps in an attempt to impress their biggest asset. But inevitably, rival teams are determined to sign Acosta too.

Pedro Acosta chooses his team for 2027 – it’s not Aprilia or Yamaha

Speaking on Giovanni Zamagni’s YouTube channel, Spanish journalist Manuel Pecino claimed that Acosta has already signed his contract for 2027, but says he can’t confirm which team he will be riding for.

Pecino did rule out Yamaha and Aprilia, leaving KTM, Honda and Ducati as the remaining options.

Previous reports have suggested that Honda would triple Acosta’s salary, though the rider himself has said money will not be his motivation.

Agree or disagree – Pedro Acosta is the most exciting MotoGP talent since Marc Marquez

Acosta could replace Francesco Bagnaia at the Ducati factory team and is also known to have held talks with satellite squad VR46.

“I am in a position to say that Pedro has signed,” Pecino said. “With who? I swear I don’t know. He has signed for 2027. He’s already locked in. Don’t make me say what I can’t say.

“Obviously, he didn’t sign with Yamaha. I think that’s pretty obvious. There are three left. With Aprilia? I don’t think so.”

The MotoGP rider market is already underway in secret

Zamagni says riders were opening 2027 talks weeks before the 2025 season had ended. As it stands, only LCR pair Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira and Pramac’s Toprak Razgatlioglu are under contract beyond 2026.

Zamagni said: “I don’t know if it’s true [about Acosta], but if Manu says it, I believe it blindly.

“I spoke to a manager [in Valencia] and asked, ‘When does the rider market start?’ He said to me, ‘Well, I know you don’t like it, but the rider market has already started a few Grands Prix ago.

“It’s absolutely normal that a guy like Pedro Acosta has signed.”

Marc Marquez says there are no guarantees for 2027 given that technical regulations are being overhauled. The riders will partly be relying on intuition.

2025 world champion Marquez sits at the centre of the rider market, with Acosta and Fabio Quartararo also likely to receive multiple factory offers.
