Honda are already plotting some seismic moves ahead of the 2027 MotoGP season. They have two vacancies available at their factory team.
Joan Mir’s contract expires at the end of next year, while Luca Marini only signed a one-year extension in September. Diogo Moreira has a path to Honda’s factory team as he starts his premier-class career with satellite squad LCR in 2026.
Honda have been content to eschew star power since Marc Marquez’s 2023 departure, aware that their stock in the MotoGP rider market was lower than ever. But recent improvements could make the sport’s most successful team an attractive destination again.
To that end, Honda pursued Jorge Martin, the reigning world champion, this year, but he was forced to stay at Aprilia after a contractual stand-off. Now they’re going all out for Pedro Acosta.
Honda have made a ‘colossal’ offer to KTM star Pedro Acosta
An explosive report from Paddock-GP reveals that Acosta already has a ‘colossal’ offer on the table from Honda for 2027. He’s giving it ‘serious’ consideration.
Honda want the deal done before the end of the calendar year. A source close to the rider says they plan to make him their new ‘star’ and the ‘face’ of their MotoGP ‘rebirth’.

To convince him, Honda will offer Acosta ‘full control’ over bike development as well as ‘triple’ his current salary. This would take him to around £8.7m per year over three seasons.
Acosta’s entourage are pushing him to accept this remarkable offer amid interest from rival factories.
Who else is on Honda’s MotoGP radar for 2027?
While the latest report suggests Acosta is the absolute priority target, it’s previously been said that Honda are ‘incredibly interested’ in Fabio Quartararo. They’re clearly shopping for the grid’s most coveted talents.
Indeed, Paddock-GP add that Alberto Puig is ‘dreaming’ of an all-Spanish combination of Acosta and Martin. Interest in the injury-hit Aprilia star persists.
Though some suspect that he’ll finish his career at Honda in a fairytale conclusion, Marquez plans to re-sign at Ducati next year. Perhaps the comeback will be on the agenda for 2028 or ’29 instead.
