Marc Marquez produced one of the most dominant seasons in MotoGP history in 2025, winning 25 races throughout the year.
Many expected the Ant of Cervera to fight for the championship after joining the factory Ducati team. In fact, only Luca Marini did not back Marquez for the title in 2025, instead choosing his teammate Francesco Bagnaia as his favourite.
But the Italian would offer no threat to the Spaniard, as he struggled to adapt to the new Desmosedici. Marquez was the only rider who could win on the GP25, and he used that to his advantage.
The 32-year-old looked untouchable on the Ducati, winning 11 Grands Prix and 14 Sprint races, with 15 consecutive victories from the Aragon Sprint to the Catalan GP Sprint. All of his wins were in commanding fashion, but one stands out above the rest for Neil Hodgson.

Neil Hodgson chooses Marc Marquez’s ‘impossible’ double win at Assen as his moment of 2025
Speaking on TNT Sports‘ review of the 2025 MotoGP season, the former Superbike champion named Marquez’s double win at Assen as his moment of the season.
The Dutch Grand Prix was not a smooth weekend for the Ducati rider, with Marquez suffering two heavy crashes. Despite being ‘beaten up’ and lacking race pace, he managed to get in front and made himself ‘impossible’ to attack.
“I’m going to surprise you, because it’s his double victory in Assen,” said Hodgson. “Because in all the years I’ve been involved in racing, to watch a rider have two huge crashes throughout the weekend, and he did, one in the first practice, one, I don’t know if it was in qualifying, but massive crashes.
Who is the biggest threat to Marc Marquez in 2026?
“Proper beaten up. And clearly didn’t have the race pace, didn’t qualify well, he was on the second row, but got to the front, held everybody up and made himself impossible to pass.
“The sprint race, his brother got a load of criticism after it: ‘Ah, he won’t pass. He didn’t attack him, didn’t attack him, it’s poor. Alex should attack him’.
“And then in the main race, Marco Bezzecchi did exactly the same, could not pass him. When was the last time a rider that is not the fastest managed to win both races? I’ve never seen it before.”

What made Marc Marquez so good in 2025?
Five key moments defined Marquez’s 2025 success as he bounced back from years of injury setbacks. He was at one with the Ducati bike and found the form he had displayed before his near-career-ending accident back in 2020.
His drive to be a world champion again overpowered his rivals. Serge Andrey says Marquez was more ‘intense’ than Valentino Rossi, as he had more free time to analyse data – it was a trait he carried into 2025 as he pushed to be the number one rider again.
No one got close to Marquez for most of the season, with him only being beaten on pure pace in Barcelona and Motegi by Alex Marquez and Bagnaia respectively. The Spaniard was his own downfall with his defeats, with crashes in Austin, Jerez and Silverstone denying him more points.
The 32-year-old has had a profound effect on Ducati since joining the team. Test rider Michele Pirro says Marquez is like Casey Stoner in how he can adapt to any situation thrown at him and come out on top.
