Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez have made history during the 2025 MotoGP season as the first brothers to secure the top two spots in the premier class riders’ standings.
MotoGP crowned Marc Marquez as a seven-time premier class champion after September’s Japanese Grand Prix. The 32-year-old left Motegi boasting a 201-point lead with five rounds of the campaign to spare, having won 11 Grand Prix and 14 Sprint races through 17 rounds.
Carlo Pernat feels no rider will repeat Marquez winning the title with five rounds to spare, yet Valentino Rossi’s 2002 title is the record for winning a championship at the earliest point by percentage. Rossi won the 2002 title after 75% of the season to Marquez’s 77.2% in 2025.
Alex Marquez ensured the 2025 MotoGP season is historic for his family, however, by sealing a runners-up finish to Marc in the riders’ standings. The 29-year-old secured his P2 finish in the championship at the Malaysian Grand Prix with rounds in Portugal and Valencia to spare.
Alex Marquez believes 2025 MotoGP champion Marc Marquez lacks his ‘composure’
Before Marc Marquez suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the Indonesian Grand Prix during the round immediately after he won the 2025 title, the Cervera native also went toe-to-toe with his brother Alex at several races. Alex was even victorious on merit in Barcelona.

Alex beat Marc Marquez to win the Catalan Grand Prix for one of his three wins this year. He also won at Jerez after Marc crashed and Sepang amid his brother’s injury absence. But Alex was on the beaten end of his duels with Marc in the Thai, Argentina and Aragon Grands Prix.
Yet despite Marc dominating the 2025 MotoGP season before his injury, Alex thinks his elder brother still lacks the younger Spaniard’s composure. But Alex notes that he envies Marc for his “explosiveness”, which helped his sibling lift the 2013, ‘14, ‘16, ‘17, ‘18, ‘19 and ‘25 titles.
“I lack Marc’s explosiveness, and he lacks the composure I have at times,” Alex claimed, via quotes by MARCA. “I envy his explosiveness more than I envy his composure. It’s what has won him the titles. I’m working on improving that explosiveness.”
Alex Marquez will rival Marc Marquez for the 2026 MotoGP title as ‘nobody is unbeatable’
Alex is working on improving his explosiveness after seeing it offer Marc vast success, as the younger Marquez brother will strive to rival his sibling for the championship next year. Ducati will give Alex Marquez a factory-spec bike at Gresini in 2026 in reward for his form in 2025.

Gresini currently field Alex on a Ducati GP24, compared to Marc racing a GP25 in the factory team. Alex will even join works rider Francesco Bagnaia and VR46 ace Fabio Di Giannantonio in helping Ducati develop the GP26 bike in the Valencia post-season test in Marc’s absence.
Marc will only experience the GP26 in the first pre-season test at Sepang next February after his season-ending shoulder injury. And Alex hopes riding the same bike as his brother will let him try to fight Marc for the title next year, aware of the “pressure” that his sibling can deal.
He added: “There are many factors that can change in a year and make you go from strength to strength. I’ve always said that it’s very difficult to beat Marc over 22 races.
“As a rival, the pressure he puts on you is very difficult to accept. That conviction he has to push to the limit is key. Nobody is unbeatable. We’ll see with the same bike.”
