Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo crashed out of fourth place during the Misano Sprint at the 2025 MotoGP San Marino Grand Prix for his seventh retirement so far this season.
The 26-year-old also did not finish the Sprint Races at the Spanish GP, the Dutch GP and the Hungarian GP this season. Yamaha also saw Quartararo retire from the French GP, the British GP and the Aragon GP during a torrid stretch for the Frenchman through rounds six to eight.
Quartararo crashed in the Jerez Sprint when he tried to hang on around the outside of Marc Marquez in their fight for the lead. He also crashed out of the Sprint at Assen while eyeing a podium. Quartararo crashed into Enea Bastianini at the start of the Balaton Park Sprint, too.
Misano has now staged another Saturday stutter for Quartararo in a Sprint during the 2025 MotoGP season, as well, after he crashed whilst P4 on Lap 5 of 13. The 2021 champion lost the front-end of his YZR-M1 in the left-hand Turn 2, trying to fend off Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Fabio Quartararo crashed out of the Misano Sprint due to ‘significant’ tyre vibrations
Quartararo had VR46 riders Di Giannantonio and Franco Morbidelli on the Yamaha star’s tail when he crashed out of the Misano Sprint at the San Marino GP. But the native of Nice, who has never won a Sprint Race, did not fold the front of his M1 due to pushing beyond its limit.

The 11-time MotoGP Grand Prix winner had already felt “significant vibrations” through the left-hand side of his soft rear tyre before his crash on Lap 5. It is also a recurring issue, which Quartararo admits makes him “worry” during the early laps of every race in the 2025 term.
“I didn’t crash because I overdid it,” Quartararo said, via quotes by SPEEDWEEK. “I already felt significant vibrations on the left side of the tyre in the last corner.
“As I entered Turn 2, the bike bounced. First, the rear wheel and then the front wheel slipped away. I wanted to continue, but it was impossible.”
Quartararo added: “The first few laps always worry me because we struggle to get the soft rear tyre up to temperature. Even in qualifying, I rode one lap slowly and then two fast.”

Fabio Quartararo qualified P3 for the 2025 San Marino Grand Prix
Aprilia star Marco Bezzecchi won the Misano Sprint for his second Sprint Race victory so far, having previously only won the Sprint at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix for VR46. Every rider to win a MotoGP Sprint has now won at least two, with all 55 shared amongst nine riders, too.

Quartararo secured P3 in the Sachsenring Sprint and P2 in the Barcelona Sprint for his best Sprint Race results in the 2025 MotoGP season. But the Yamaha rider could not convert his P3 starting spot in the Misano Sprint, after falling behind Marquez early and then crashing.
Bezzecchi scored pole for the San Marino GP earlier on Saturday, before winning the Sprint at Misano, as he beat Gresini’s Alex Marquez by 0.088 seconds and Yamaha’s Quartararo in P3 by 0.094s. Ducati ace Marc Marquez qualified P4 for the San Marino GP, 0.218s off pole.
Quartararo now hopes his tyres perform “normally” in Sunday’s San Marino GP to make full use of his strong qualifying result. The Frenchman believes Yamaha have the race pace for a top-five finish at Misano, which would be just his second top-five in the last five Grands Prix.
“I hope the tyre performs normally on Sunday,” Quartararo continued. “Then we can have a great race. Our pace is good for the top five. Considering our difficulties, it’s very good that I qualified third on the grid.”
