Marc Marquez has undergone surgery on his right collarbone after sustaining fractures in a crash at Mandalika.
The 32-year-old, who wrapped up the 2025 MotoGP title at Motegi, suffered a horrible accident the following weekend at the Indonesian GP. Marco Bezzecchi took out Marquez in an ill-timed overtake at turn seven on the opening lap.
Both riders were sent into the gravel trap at high speed, with Marquez landing on top of his right shoulder. The Ducati rider felt he had fractured the ligaments in his collarbone and flew to Madrid that night to have check-ups.
Brad Binder saved Marquez from a more serious injury, as he complained, like several other riders, about the gravel traps around the Mandalika circuit. Bezzecchi apologised to Marquez after the crash; the Aprilia rider suffered bruising, but will be fit to race in Australia this weekend.
The same cannot be said for Marquez, with Ducati confirming he would miss the next two races at Phillip Island and Sepang. It was initially thought that surgery was not required, but on Monday, the Borgo Panigale outfit confirmed that he had undergone treatment for his collarbone.

In a statement from Ducati, the team revealed that Marquez’s medical team found that the ‘coracoid fracture and ligament damage were not showing sufficient signs of stabilisation after a week of being immobilised’. Therefore, surgery was required.
With the operation being a success, Marquez is already back home and beginning his recovery, with Ducati not giving a timeline for his return. MotoGP fans took to the team’s Instagram account to tell the Ant of Cervera not to rush back to racing action.
“Come on Marc, slowly, you know,” wrote one fan. Another echoed the same feelings: “Get well soon Marc, don’t hurry back before you’re really well.”
One user pleaded with Ducati: “Please let him not take the rest of the race this year, prepare thoroughly for the coming year 2026 for the world champion again.”
“This time, I don’t expect you to rush back, King, considering that the past incident was very mentally draining. Okay, when you’re fully recovered, King, and become the king of all,” wrote another fan.
One said: “Take all the time you need to heal, so that you can get back on track as you know how to! Good luck champ!!!”
Finally, another user told Marquez: “There’s always next year, Marc. Now, focus on healing and recovering from your injury. Get well soon, Marc. Stay strong and motivated. Although we would like to see you racing again soon.”

Ducati test rider Michele Pirro will stand in for the Spaniard at Phillip Island, but the team have not confirmed who will replace him at Sepang. Nicolo Bulega will not replace Marquez as he does not think a one-off appearance will be useful to him.
The 32-year-old will be looking to recover as quickly as possible and get back in action. But with the 2025 title already won, he can afford to bide his time and properly prepare for 2026.
Davide Tardozzi says Marquez can focus on 2026 during winter testing. Now, with this injury, he can rest well and get ready for next year without feeling the need to rush back.
Marquez’s physio regrets not stopping him from returning after his accident at Jerez in 2020, due to the subsequent setbacks and injuries he would suffer. Marquez knows the next crash could end his career; he must not come back too soon.
