Aprilia and Jorge Martin’s contract dispute feels almost like a fever dream as the 2025 season nears its end.

The 2024 MotoGP champion joined Aprilia on a two-year deal out of spite after Ducati signed Marc Marquez over Martin. Taking the No.1 plate to the Noale outfit from Pramac, the Spaniard’s 2025 campaign has been plagued by injury.

The 27-year-old suffered multiple fractures in a crash at the Sepang test before breaking his scaphoid in a motocross accident. Martin returned at the Qatar GP, but he suffered 11 broken ribs and a pneumothorax in a crash with Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Not long after the accident, Martin shockingly announced his intention to leave Aprilia. He activated an exit clause in his contract that, in his view, allowed him to leave if he was not in a competitive position after the first six races.

Honda were plotting a move for the Spaniard, but Aprilia deemed Martin’s contract clause to be invalid, having only competed in one race for the team. Ultimately, Dorna blocked Martin from leaving Aprilia as they would not allow any rider to break their contract.

In Martin’s absence, teammate Marco Bezzecchi was making significant progress on the RS-GP25. The Italian won at Silverstone and has since been regularly challenging the Ducatis at the front, claiming three pole positions, two Sprint wins and six podiums thus far in 2025.

Martin returned to action just before the summer break at Brno, finishing an impressive seventh. He recorded his best finish of the season at Balaton Park with P4; Aprilia proved to him that the bike is a competitive package after all.

Speaking via Duralavita, two-time MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo has seen that the two parties have a ‘pretty good feeling’ since their drama earlier in the year. There are ‘no regrets’ from either side as they now work together in harmony.

“Even if I tell you, at least in the media, they are managing the situation very well, after all the mess that they have had with both Aprilia and Martin.

“They have started again with a pretty good feeling, good vibes, at least on a spiritual level, I see it from the outside. No, there are no regrets or bad feelings.”

Jorge Martin is back on the sidelines as injury-ravaged 2025 continues

After returning from his major injuries in Qatar, Martin was looking to salvage the best finish he could in the second half of 2025. However, he has suffered yet another setback after a crash at Motegi.

The Spaniard lost control of his RS-GP25 at the first corner in the Sprint race, taking out teammate Bezzecchi in the process. Martin kept checking on Bezzecchi as he tearfully returned to the garage.

The Italian was cleared to race on Sunday after escaping the crash with bruising. But Martin required surgery after fracturing his right collarbone, ruling him out for Motegi and Mandalika.

It is unclear when, or if, Martin will return to the grid for the final races of 2025. He will be hoping he can have an injury-free season in 2026, as Aprilia look to challenge Ducati.
