MotoGP ‘GOAT’ candidate admits Marc Marquez’s talent has never been ‘seen before’ in bike racing

Marc Marquez has just wrapped up his seventh MotoGP title in some style with five races in the season to go, and he’s not going to stop there.

Ducati hedged its bets when making an attempt to sign the 32-year-old from Gresini last year, putting him on a factory deal. Looking back, it was an inspired move, and one that might have saved them from being beaten by another MotoGP manufacturer in 2025.

Marquez has been that good that for the majority of the campaign, his own very successful teammate hasn’t been able to get close to him. If anything, he has managed to make Francesco Bagnaia look like a bit of a rookie in a team he has been with for five seasons.

After watching him win once more on their home ground, Honda staff were ‘really emotional’ about Marquez, and enjoyed seeing him claim another crown in Japan. Interestingly, Marquez says it’s an ‘honour’ to match Valentino Rossi in the title column, but now he’ll be desperate to beat him.

MotoGP ‘GOAT’ admits Marc Marquez’s racing talent has never been ‘seen before’

Marquez overcame a hurdle ‘no one’ expected him to by managing to beat the young crop of faces on the grid at the age of 32. Becoming the oldest champion in history is a true representation of his determination and skills.

After watching him struggle through pain, surgeries, and bad results for years, Marc’s MotoGP comeback made Alex Marquez ‘really happy’. For the first time since the younger brother joined the premier class, they were able to celebrate his triumph together.

Speaking in a column for Motorsport Magazine, journalist Mat Oxley shared how Marquez has a level of talent that even a ‘GOAT’ candidate hasn’t seen before.

“Here’s an engineer – whose first job in MotoGP was working with three-times champion Wayne Rainey – talking about Márquez, “Marc needs it, he craves it. He’s so focused. The other guys are like spoiled little brats,” he said.

“And here’s a multiple MotoGP champion, who’s also worthy of consideration for the GOAT mantle, “Marc’s talent is to a level that hasn’t been seen before.”

Why the MotoGP field will be even more worried about Marc Marquez in 2026

In 2025, it would have been acceptable for Marquez to take some time before truly finding his feet at Ducati. Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari haven’t fused straight away in Formula 1, and this could have been a similar case.

However, they hit the ground running. When given time to look back at the data and find improvements, the possibilities could be mind-blowing.

Jorge Lorenzo knows the only way to beat Marquez, but no one will have a chance to in 2026 if Ducati can improve their bike over the winter.

As per usual, the Spaniard will work harder than ever physically and behind the scenes to ensure that he bursts out of the block even stronger next February, and it’s exactly why his competitors have reason to fear him once more.
