Jorge Lorenzo has already revealed the only way to beat Marc Marquez as he seals dominant 2025 title

Marc Marquez has finally completed his heroic MotoGP comeback by sealing his seventh MotoGP title at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Now a nine-time world champion, the Spaniard will have his eyes set on replicating the level of dominance he has produced with Ducati so far, for 2026. Marquez can still break a few more records this campaign and will look to do so, but his competition is edging closer.

It hasn’t been the most complete MotoGP season of his, but it might end up being the most satisfying, considering the number of people he has had to prove wrong to return to the top. After his horrific Jerez accident in 2020, few expected he would ever race again, let alone dominate.

Marquez only has one ‘weak point’, and an ex-Gresini colleague believes that it might be himself. For now, he shows no signs of wanting to stop any time soon. An old Honda ally expects Marquez to retire when he realises someone is better than him, but that time is not now.

Jorge Lorenzo has already shared how Marc Marquez’s MotoGP rivals can beat him in the future

Marquez reminds Dani Pedrosa of one wild animal, having spent six seasons together as teammates at Honda, with five titles won by the former during their time in the garage together. He wishes that he could have been a bit more like him.

But generational talents only pop up every now and then, and it’s part of what makes the seven-time premier class champion so special. Marquez’s MotoGP career could’ve ended at Gresini, but his gamble paid off, and now it looks like an inspired move.

Two-time champion Jorge Lorenzo shared why the 32-year-old wins so much back in 2018, and it indicates where his rivals must do better if they want to beat him in the future.

“That year [2015], Valentino could have beaten him too, but I was the happiest,” he said, according to Paddock GP. “I think this season was the closest ever, and I won the championship with just a few points difference. I’m the only one who deprived Marc of a title, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen again.

“I will fight every day to make this happen again. Marquez is a five-time MotoGP world champion. He won in his first year, so he’s a great talent. But he doesn’t win through talent alone, he works hard and has big ambitions.

“He is not afraid of falling, and that can be an advantage or a disadvantage, he is an exceptional pilot and an excellent athlete. I know he’s incredible, but if I signed with Honda, it’s not to do one more season, but to beat him.”

What else can Marc Marquez achieve during the 2025 MotoGP season?

Now that the all-important title has been wrapped up, there are other records which can be extended or snatched by the end of the campaign.

The most notable by modern standards would be for the most points scored in a season, which could go beyond 700 if he continues on his march.

No one has ever scored more than 600, let alone reached the 700 mark, and while the sprint race format has been helpful, the record was still only 420 without them a few years ago.

Marquez can also continue to attack the record for the most victories in a season (13), set by him in 2014. It’s another accolade which is virtually guaranteed to tumble.
