Fermin Aldeguer reveals the area where he has an ‘advantage’ over Marc Marquez after looking at Ducati’s data

Fermin Aldeguer has impressed in his rookie MotoGP season with Gresini Racing, securing two podium finishes on his way to currently being the highest placed debutant in the riders’ standings.

The Gresini man is currently the lowest-placed Ducati rider in the standings, 34 points adrift of Fabio Di Giannantonio on the factory-spec GP25, the same bike that Marquez is currently dominating the championship in.

Despite being the inferior rider in the Borgo Panigale stable, there are a lot more positives than negatives to take away from Aldeguer’s maiden season in the premier class, and that’s exactly what Ducati bosses are taking note of as he gets up to speed with the rest of the grid.

Luigi Dall’Igna thinks Aldeguer is sure to be a Ducati factory rider in the future, in a testament to how well the development of the youngster has gone this year with the satellite team.

Fermin Aldeguer believes he has an advantage over the rest of the MotoGP grid in the final laps of the race

Aldeguer secured his highest finish yet in the premier class at the Austrian Grand Prix in August with a second-place finish behind Marquez on the factory Ducati.

After starting from sixth on the grid, the Spaniard finished just over a second behind the championship leader, in a ride that Casey Stoner believes is one of the best performances of the year.

Aldeguer was confident in his ability to have gone on to win the Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, telling reporters after the race that if anyone can beat the Ant of Cervera on the final lap of a race, it’s him.

The 20-year-old was asked about his comments by Mundo Deportivo ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix, to which he replied, “I just said, like Marc said, in the end, in those final laps of the race, I managed to be very fast; it’s in the data.

“I meant that in the end, the tyre that arrives freshest, the one in the best condition at the end of the race, is mine, the one with the lowest percentage of wear in almost every race.

“It’s a small advantage I have over the rest. So there goes the saying, ‘I can’t beat him,’ at least at Ducati.

“I don’t know how the rest arrive, but from the data we have on Ducati, it’s like that, and it’s not about being arrogant. Obviously, I know that in a duel with Marc, I lack a lot of experience to be able to beat him.”

Fermin Aldeguer could partner Marc Marquez at Ducati Lenovo one day

As previously mentioned, it’s highly likely that we see Aldeguer racing in red one day and considering Marquez’s dominance with Ducati this season, the two Spaniards could be the factory line-up for the Italian constructor in the future.

Aldeguer is hopeful of a call-up to Ducati Lenovo in 2027 after recently being asked about the prospect ahead of the current round in San Marino.

Both Francesco Bagnaia and Marquez are out of contract at the end of 2026, with Bagnaia’s woes in the current campaign meaning that he is most likely to find himself on the chopping block when negotiations begin.

The future certainly looks bright for the Murcian native. If he can continue to shine in the Ducati stable, then it’s only a matter of time before the youngster is challenging for more race wins in the future atop championship-leading machinery.
