Alex Marquez has been the second-best rider of the 2025 MotoGP campaign, putting in a number of impressive performances atop last year’s spec Ducati with Gresini Racing.
Alex and Marc Marquez made history in the MotoGP season opener, becoming the first pair of brothers to have stood on the podium in one-two formation.
They could make further history if the order of the standings stays as they are currently.
It has led some to believe that the younger Marquez brother has done enough to earn himself a ride for the Ducati factory team in the future.
Alex is already on course to ride a factory-spec Ducati in 2026 as a reward for his exploits on the 2024 bike this season.

The mother of Alex Marquez and Marc Marquez can imagine them racing together at Ducati ‘one day’
In an episode of NicoabadTV, MotoGP journalist Mela Chercoles revealed what the mother of the Marquez brothers said to him after being prompted about potentially seeing them both team up together again for the factory Ducati team.
“Alex is a diesel engine that never gives up,” Chercoles started. “He’s kept pushing for years until finally standing out in MotoGP, and look at the way he’s doing it this season.
“His manager, Jimmy Martinez, has been pushing for a Ducati Lenovo contract for a while. At the podium, the two brothers were up there together with Bastianini. I hugged Roser and said, ‘Look at them, can’t you imagine them in red?’
“And she said, ‘Why not? Sure. But I’ll tell you one thing, we’re happy at Gresini. Racing in red isn’t an obsession, but yes, of course I can imagine them both in red one day.’
“Of course, there’s competition: Aldeguer is aiming for that bike, or someone from another brand at any given moment. It is still to be seen what will happen, but Alex is building a strong resume.”
Alex and Marc previously teamed up in 2024, following the latter’s hugely anticipated move from Honda to Ducati with the Gresini Racing outfit.
The move rejuvenated Marc on brand new machinery, as he took his first premier class wins for nearly three years during the second half of the season.

Who else could challenge Fermin Aldeguer and Alex Marquez for a factory Ducati seat?
As noted by Chercoles, Aldeguer is the favourite to be in with a chance of a full factory ride with Ducati in the future. The young Spaniard has impressed in his rookie MotoGP season, with Ducati chief Luigi Dall’Igna tipping Aldeguer to ride in red previously.
Fabio Quartararo is Ducati’s preferred option, but the move could only be possible if they were looking for a replacement to the current championship leader.

Quartararo has been unhappy with the performance of Yamaha’s prototype in recent years, and could look for a divorce from the team he has spent the entirety of his MotoGP career with up to this point.
Pedro Acosta is one of the hottest prospects on the grid at the moment, with every team interested in securing his talents. Ducati thought they had secured Acosta as a Ducati rider through a deal with satellite team VR46, but the Murcian rider backed out of the deal to honour his KTM contract.
