Marco Bezzecchi issues health update after suffering two crashes at the Catalan Grand Prix

Marco Bezzecchi’s hopes of finishing in the top three of the MotoGP standings took a bit of a dent at the Catalan Grand Prix.

The Aprilia rider crashed twice in Spain, the second taking him out of Sunday’s race prematurely, stripping him of the chance to score points. With things being tight at the top of the MotoGP standings, failing to take anything away from the weekend will have been frustrating.

Fortunately, Bezzecchi heads straight to Misano for a home race now, where he will need the support of his home crowd to get back on track. He’s just 40 points behind Francesco Bagnaia in the fight for third, with seven races to go in 2025.

Bezzecchi is in awe of the ‘amazing’ Jorge Martin and cannot quite believe what he has seen his teammate produce at times since coming back from injury. However, it isn’t all sunshine and whistles, with Martin facing ‘similar problems’ to Bezzecchi on the bike at times. There is work to do.

Marco Bezzecchi’s pain ‘not crazy’ after crashing twice at the Catalan Grand Prix

Marc Marquez is ‘only afraid’ of Bezzecchi, according to Carlo Pernat, in 2025. That’s despite winning 15 of the last 16 races and dominating most of the campaign. He has been the constant factor behind Aprilia’s gradual rise recently, and without him, there’s no telling where they would be in the standings.

A nightmare situation for them now would be for their rider to go down injured with a handful of races to go this season. Bezzecchi wanted to leave VR46 for Aprilia, and it has been an inspired move, but the big rewards may only come in 2026.

Speaking to the Italian edition of Motorsport.com after the Catalan Grand Prix, the Italian rider shared how his crashes left him feeling after the weekend.

“I felt good today, but with the fact that the accident happened quite early, I didn’t force my body,” he said. “I feel a little pain, especially in my left hip, but I’m still under the effect of the painkillers I took for the race. Right now I feel pretty good, but it’s not crazy, I was hit by the bike, that’s all.”

Why Marco Bezzecchi needs to be careful over the final seven races of the 2025 MotoGP season

Not only should Bezzecchi be fired up to chase Bagnaia down in the standings, but he also needs to look behind him. Despite a strategic mistake, Pedro Acosta left the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with a strong haul of points and is now just 14 points behind Aprilia’s star man.

Arguably, the two are the most in-form riders other than Marquez at the front, and they have earned it. After starting the year so poorly, they stuck around as their manufacturers fought to find ways to improve their bikes.

Bezzecchi already has a victory for the season, earned at Silverstone, but he could be in with a shout of another, as so could Acosta (for his maiden win) if they keep performing and improving at the rate they have been throughout 2025.
