Jorge Martin put on an overtaking clinic at the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix sprint as he flew past many of his MotoGP rivals.
The Spaniard was very comfortable with the brakes on his bike, and despite struggling over one lap, was far better off over a longer distance. The signs are promising for Aprilia.
They’re not as strong overall as they have been in previous races, but Martin has managed to match his performances around Balaton Park. It suggests his gradual improvements are continuing.
He even secured a MotoGP championship point for finishing ninth on Saturday, despite starting 16th on the grid.
Martin has realised Aprilia’s ‘big problem’ just a few races into his comeback, and can see that tyre pressures have affected their pace.
Just a few weeks ago, Martin was at his ‘limit’ around Austria and was pushing hard to keep up with his rivals. It made him a little uncomfortable.

Jorge Martin is facing ‘similar problems’ to Marco Bezzecchi at Aprilia
Martin says 2027 is a ‘different story’ regarding his future prospects, and has hinted at being open to exploring other options, however, it would be a gamble.
With the new set of regulations for that year, nobody knows who will be competitive. Any switch could potentially backfire, all while he’s comfortable with his current team.
Speaking to SPEEDWEEK in Hungary, he revealed how he has suffered ‘similar’ problems to Marco Bezzecchi in Hungary.
“I didn’t improve enough on a quick lap this weekend and maybe the tyre wasn’t optimal for me either. But that’s part of the learning process for me and Marco also had similar problems at the beginning of the year,” he said.
“In addition, there is the way the motorcycle reacts. Because the more aggressively you drive the motorcycle, the slower you get. The RS-GP needs a very soft driving style – you have to prepare for all that as a pilot.
“I’m not yet fast enough to drive to the podium or even win, but I feel equipped for fights for top 5 places.”

Where might Jorge Martin finish in the MotoGP riders’ championship at the end of 2025?
With eight events to go this season, Martin can make some progress towards his rivals higher up in the standings.
A total of 27 riders have been classified in the standings so far in 2025, and Martin is still above a few full-time riders who have had tough times.
Miguel Oliveira and Somkiat Chantra spring to mind, but with a few top-five finishes, the reigning champion still has a chance of finishing around the 15th-place mark this year.
It also depends on which of his rivals has a strong end to the season, but with an improving Aprilia bike, he will be hoping to score strong points at every race.
