Pedro Acosta must copy one Jorge Martin move if he wants to emulate Marc Marquez in MotoGP

Pedro Acosta has another year riding for KTM before a significant MotoGP regulation overhaul, which could completely change the running order of the grid.

One of the main problems that faces the Murcian is that there has been no guarantee from his employer regarding their participation beyond 2026.

Whichever way it goes, KTM would still have a long way to go to convince Acosta to remain with them in the future, given that they haven’t shown much winning prowess recently.

They have just eight rounds to go during the current MotoGP campaign, to show that it is possible they can win a championship in the near future. Otherwise, pre-contract talks may be engaged.

Ducati have chosen their ‘preferred option’ for 2027 in the unlikely event that Marc Marquez leaves them. Fabio Quartararo, not Acosta, would be their go-to.

Just a few days ago, Acosta hailed Marquez’s ‘remarkable’ return from injury and stated that he’s now on par with Valentino Rossi. In the numbers department, he will overtake him soon.

Pedro Acosta must copy Jorge Martin’s KTM departure if he wants to emulate Marc Marquez

Honda are bound to oppose any Acosta move because they value a rider like Luca Marini, who perhaps doesn’t take as many risks, but doesn’t crash either.

However, attaining him would be a bold move. If he really is the next superstar on the same trajectory as Marquez, they want to secure his services sooner rather than later.

That would force Acosta into a move that Jorge Martin pulled before even arriving in MotoGP. He backed out of a KTM promotion from Moto2 to take a satellite Ducati seat at Pramac.

Leaving KTM, which is all he has ever known, would be a bold move. It could help set him on a path towards becoming one of the greatest of all time, though.

Acosta has ‘definitely’ been arguing with his team in 2025, and it might have damaged their relationship, but it seems that on track, everything is OK for now. They’ve started to score podiums again, which is a relief and a good sign for their future. For Honda, it’s not so good.

How Albert Valera gave Pedro Acosta a ‘tough’ warning about KTM

The trajectory of recent results shows a lot about the work behind the scenes at KTM that has been done to satisfy their riders.

In particular, Acosta, who is an asset they want to keep hold of, has been impressed by the turnaround. Including sprints, he has five top-four finishes in his last six starts.

Rumours that he could leave KTM before the end of his contract in 2026 soon quietened when their bike began to perform a little better.

It may also have been as a result of Albert Valera’s ‘tough’ warning to Acosta that he might have been focusing on things that shouldn’t have been worrying him.
