Marc Marquez is poised to seal the 2025 MotoGP title within the next few races. Even though it has long appeared an inevitability, it will be an emotional moment.
Marquez hasn’t won the title since 2019, but he’s about to complete one of motorsport’s great comebacks. He had to undergo multiple operations after a 2020 arm injury.
The Spaniard left Honda, the team with whom he’d won his first six titles, to have a shot at riding the dominant Ducati motorcycle. While Marquez thinks he’s lost some explosiveness, some feel he’s hit his all-time peak with the Bologna outfit.

Indeed, Marquez has won 10 of the first 14 Grands Prix this year, including the last seven in a row. He only needs to win half of the remaining races to break his own record for most victories in a season.
Dani Pedrosa recalls the ‘energy’ Marc Marquez transmitted during celebrations
Marquez’s success has made 2025 miserable for Francesco Bagnaia, who, like Fabio di Giannantonio, just can’t unlock the same level of performance from Ducati’s GP25.
Bagnaia has won just one race (the Americas GP after Marquez crashed) and only has a 50% podium rate. Dani Pedrosa, Marquez’s teammate at Honda between 2013 and 2018, can sympathise.
Pedrosa challenged a rookie Marquez for the title, but he only took six wins across the next four seasons. In the same period, his teammate racked up 38.
Speaking to DAZN, Pedrosa explained how Marquez’s ecstatic celebrations sap further morale from the other side of the garage.
| Category | M Mar | D Ped |
| Championships | 5 | 0 |
| Wins | 43 | 9 |
| Poles | 52 | 7 |
| Podiums | 77 | 41 |
| Points | 1,855 | 1,234 |
“Apart from how fast or well Marc Marquez can do, especially compared to you on that same weekend, it’s also a bit about what happens afterwards; the way he celebrates, the energy he transmits to the team, and all that,” he said.
“You may have finished fourth, off the podium, and he won the race. There’s a celebration going on, and the team is a bit divided at that moment because it wants you to do well too, but the other rider is enjoying himself so much that people want to join in the party, the positive and beautiful energy.
“You finish fourth that day, and although you would like to and you are happy for the team, but you personally don’t have that inner feeling that makes you so happy so, if that is repeated over many weekends, in the end it makes it difficult for you.”
Luigi Dall’Igna just made his biggest statement about Marc Marquez yet
Suzi Perry still views Valentino Rossi as the greatest despite Marquez’s 2025 record chase. This is on course to be the most dominant MotoGP season ever.
Marquez will match Rossi by winning a seventh premier-class title. He will also supplant him as the series’ oldest champion.
Luigi Dall’Igna is in awe of Marquez, admitting that he’s ‘never’ seen a rider reach this level. That was his most emphatic statement about the Ant of Cervera yet.
He will join Bagnaia and Casey Stoner in bringing the championship back to Bologna. And when he does so, he’ll have a case to be considered Ducati’s best-ever rider.
