It’s quite the compliment when an eight-time world champion and the current MotoGP championship leader draws comparisons to himself and a younger rider.
Marc Marquez has been in dominant form during the current premier class campaign, claiming a monstrous 23 wins out of a possible 28 in all races across the season.
Marquez has been ‘immaculate’ with Ducati this year, according to Sylvain Guintoli. He can clinch the title as early as Misano, which comes after the upcoming round in Barcelona.
| YEAR | POINTS | RUNNER-UP | GAP |
| 2013 | 328 | Jorge Lorenzo | 4 |
| 2014 | 334 | Valentino Rossi | 67 |
| 2016 | 362 | Valentino Rossi | 49 |
| 2017 | 298 | Andrea Dovizioso | 37 |
| 2018 | 321 | Andrea Dovizioso | 76 |
| 2019 | 420 | Andrea Dovizioso | 151 |
As if he wasn’t being considered before, he has emerged as a leading candidate to be crowned as the greatest racer on two wheels in the history of the sport. MotoGP fans are sure that Marquez is the ‘GOAT’, and adding another record to his collection this year will only cement that.

David Alonso’s Moto2 win at the Hungarian Grand Prix reminded Marc Marquez of his win in Moto2 at Le Mans
Speaking to AS about the upcoming talent outside of the premier class, Marquez touched upon the development of David Alonso and his first managerial client, Maximo Quiles. Both riders secured wins at Balaton Park in their respective classes.
After starting from eighth on the grid, the Spanish-born Colombian, Alonso, produced a brilliant ride to carve his way through the field on a notoriously difficult track for overtaking to take his first chequered flag in the intermediate class.

“It reminded me a little of my first Moto2 victory at Le Mans, coming from behind, fighting back and attacking, and that’s the beauty of it,” Marquez lauded.
“It’s great when you see someone like David Alonso or Máximo Quiles with the recklessness of a rookie, braking hard for no reason. It backfired in Austria, but here it worked out very well for him. Congratulations to both of them.”

Marc Marquez believes David Alonso will have the pick of the brands once he is ready for MotoGP
To continue the plaudits laid on Alonso, Marquez also feels like the young Colombian will be able to choose whichever team he likes once he is ready to make the step up to the premier class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
Continuing in his interview with AS, the Spaniard said, “It’s unknown, but surely if he continues doing as he is, in the next year and a half, he’ll have the opportunity to go to any brand he wants. So he has a future ahead of him.
“He’s proven it, he’s very talented. But as you can see, there’s Martín, there’s Bezzecchi, and there’s also Acosta, Aldeguer, and this whole new generation is the one that’s coming up and will shape the future.
“Let’s not forget the younger generation. Today was also David Alonso’s first win, and Máximo Quiles’ second. So we have a youth academy in Spain, which is what’s truly important.”
Alonso has also caught the eye of journalists, with Jack Appleyard tipping the youngster to make the move up to the premier class fairly soon.
