Marc Marquez secured his eighth pole position of the 2025 MotoGP season at the Hungarian Grand Prix, as he continues his dominating form in the premier class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.

As the MotoGP circus arrived at the Balaton Park circuit for the first time ever this weekend, many thought the lack of prior racing at the track would create an even playing field for the grid.

However, that didn’t seem to be the case for the high-flying Spaniard as he became the first-ever pole-sitter in the premier class at the Hungarian circuit.

The championship leader’s Ducati teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, failed to make it out of Q1 for the first time this season. MotoGP rival Franco Morbidelli has been disappointed at the lack of a battle between the factory Ducati riders, expecting the Italian to be able to replicate Marquez’s feats.

Sylvain Guintoli hailed Marc Marquez’s ability to ‘consistently’ set fast laps during qualifying

Speaking on TNT Sports’ coverage of the Hungarian Grand Prix, former MotoGP rider turned pundit Sylvain Guintoli showered the plaudits on Marquez after he clinched yet another pole position during the current campaign.

“We know that Marc Marquez is very confident; he’s got, well, his record is good on right-handers, as well, but a particularly good record on left-handers,” Guintoli told his co-hosts.” It just looks immaculate, generating the lap time there consistently.

“Making the bike just out of shape, just enough that he still looks like he’s on rails. He’s got that rear brake control; you can see him pressing the rear brake there into the last turn.

He’s very, very quick in the last sector, and he’s been consistently posting faster lap times, so he’s able to deliver and he’s able to keep the pace as well. He’s a massive favourite for the sprint later on today and the race tomorrow.

“A very solid session for Marc Marquez. He was taking risks there, but it just looks like it looks like he’s on another level. You can see the bike is twitching, but just the right level; it just got everything on point. It’s beautiful to see.”

Marc Marquez is closing in on his previous single-season pole position record in MotoGP

With the pole position at Balaton Park being the Spaniard’s eighth of the season, he is now just five more front-of-the-grid starts away from matching his 2014 record of 13 pole positions in a single season.

With eight rounds of the season left for him to clinch the record, his previous performances at the upcoming rounds certainly make the possibility of him breaking it fairly high.

He has had a pole position at all of them, except for Indonesia, where he hasn’t yet been able to start from the front of the pack.

He is also on track to shatter his own record for the most amount of Grand Prix victories in a single season. Marquez is now five wins away from beating his 2014 record, which he set atop a Honda bike during one of the most successful partnerships in the modern era of MotoGP.
