How Marc Marquez’s assistant thinks the Misano crowd would react to him winning the championship

Marc Marquez could be confirmed as the 2025 MotoGP world champion within the next two races. He made it seven straight perfect weekends at the Hungarian Grand Prix last time out.

With nearest challenger Alex Marquez falling out of form, the gap at the top of the standings has grown to 175 points. There are another 296 to play for.

After the San Marino Grand Prix next month, there will only be 222 up for grabs. Thus, Marquez needs to outscore his brother by 47 points across the next two weekends to seal the title at Misano.

The Spaniard was booed after winning at the circuit for Gresini last year. His great rival Valentino Rossi has a special connection to the circuit after growing up in the nearby town of Tavullia.

Marc Marquez’s assistant predicts respectful reaction if he seals title at Misano

In an interview with AS, Marquez’s assistant, Jose Luis Martinez, was asked about the prospect of sealing the championship in what would be enemy territory. He was predictably nonchalant on the subject.

“It would be a sign that the next race, Montmelo, went very well,” Martinez said. “A sign that they’ve done a good job there too.”

Martinez isn’t worried about a hostile reception for his rider. He expects the crowd to be ‘civilised’, even though sections of the Mugello grandstands booed Marquez earlier this year.

“Nothing, nothing,” he said. “People are civilised, they know this is a sport, and above all, it’s about people.”

Martinez has ‘never’ seen a rider win the championship during the European phase of the season. After the Misano weekend, the sport heads to Motegi for the Japanese Grand Prix.

“I don’t mind celebrating the title in one place or another,” he said. Logistically, it might be more convenient to do it in Europe, but I’ve never seen that happen.

“Now, if it’s time to celebrate it in Europe, you’ll have to work hard to prepare for it, but the most sensible thing is for it to be outside of Europe.”

Ducati’s plea for fans not to boo Marc Marquez

Marquez is looking to break his own record for the most victories in a season. He currently has 10, so he needs three to match his 2014 benchmark and four to break it.

Based on his current performance levels, almost nobody in the paddock would bet against him achieving that remarkable feat. The only hope for his rivals is that he eases off after clinching the crown.

It will be a particularly meaningful triumph, and not just because it ends a six-year, injury-ravaged drought. Marquez will match Rossi by winning a seventh premier-class title.

Ducati test rider Michele Pirro has appealed for fans to show respect at Misano. He says they need to recognise that it’s a collective effort that goes well beyond Marquez.
