Marc Marquez is just a matter of races away from ending a six-year run without a MotoGP title.
The Spaniard leads the championship by 175 points, and a poor few weekends from his brother have left him tantalisingly close to a seventh crown.
Ducati’s gamble to sign him has well and truly paid off, and it seems that he should be in a good position to repeat this form in 2026.
There’s a strong chance that Marquez is a name heard at the top of the MotoGP standings for many more years to come, even after some had written him off with Honda.
Marquez might be creating the same situation that ruined Honda, but it’s up to his team to make sure that the bike is rideable and quick for everyone.
Despite winning the last seven races in a row, Marquez has lost ‘explosiveness’ since leaving Honda. His qualifying stats have been the least impressive aspect of 2025, so it explains a lot.

Marc Marquez was ‘surprised’ by Marco Bezzecchi’s approach at the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix
Marco Bezzecchi has emulated Marquez in 2025 and has also been one of the most impressive riders of the season.
Few expected that he and Aprilia would wind up being Marquez’s most consistent challenger at the start of the campaign, especially considering how impressive Francesco Bagnaia has been for years.
However, it’s how the season has played out, and Bezzecchi even managed to catch Marquez by surprise at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
“In the first corner, I played it safe because I saw that Bezzecchi was on the inside and I could do the corner perfectly on the inside, but I didn’t know how much control he had over the situation, and I decided to leave the brakes, even though I knew I was losing the position,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“In turn two, I was surprised by his line, which slowed down the corner and then came out very tight on the inside, while I did it differently. Once again, as you see in racing, anything can happen and almost in that second corner, we threw the weekend away.”
Which MotoGP record is Marc Marquez nearest to smashing next?
With eight races to go in the 2025 season in just under three months, racing action is going to come thick and fast, as will some of the records Marquez is about to break.
Barring a disaster from his brother over the next few rounds, there’s a strong chance that he wins his 10th race in a row, matching his consecutive wins record from 2014 at the same time as claiming the title.
On current form, that would be at the Mandalika circuit, but it could fall one race earlier at Misano, causing quite the stir from the fans, who are evidently loyal to Valentino Rossi.
He’s recently cracked his personal accolade for most points in a campaign, but with more races and sprints to add to the mix too, that’s probably not quite as impressive as some of the others.
