Marc Marquez just wrapped up his seventh consecutive MotoGP double victory and is well on his way to smashing multiple records in 2025.
The Spaniard has received little competition over the last few months and has been working almost in perfect harmony with his Ducati bike.
Marquez can win the title on Valentino Rossi’s home soil, to draw level on titles with his ex-arch nemesis, at the age of 32.
There’s not a lot anyone is going to be able to do about it, as he holds a 175-point lead at the top of the MotoGP standings.
Marquez might be creating ‘exactly’ the same situation that ruined Honda as his colleagues have begun to struggle with their Ducati machinery more and more recently. Maybe he’s giving a false illusion that all is ok?
At the Hungarian Grand Prix, Marquez avoided a strategy choice that his rivals could not, by opting for a harder tyre. It made the last few laps of the race a breeze for him.

Fans all said the same thing as Marquez scored his eighth pole of 2025, with many suggesting that he is already the greatest rider of all time.
His story is incredible, and he’s come a long way from the dark days at Honda. Soon, his numbers will surpass Rossi, who has a huge pull and a massive fanbase.
Current rival Franco Morbidelli was quizzed as to whether he believes the Spaniard will be held in a higher regard after matching Rossi’s number of titles, but he has ‘reservations’.
“I’m going to do a very big job to answer you and I set aside my friendship with Valentino to answer. At the moment, Marc has eight, and when he wins this World Championship, he will have nine, like Vale,” he told Diario AS.
“The numbers equal them and I think that both Valentino and Marc can be considered one of the three or five greatest in history, for the numbers and for the way to get them.
“It was incredible and inspiring what Marc did, but I have a reservation about his great career, a not very positive thought of a moment in his career. I mean 2015.”
How do Marc Marquez’s MotoGP numbers stack up against Valentino Rossi?
Currently, Marquez is still 17 races shy of having won the same number of Grands Prix as Rossi, but he does have multiple sprint wins that he doesn’t have.
It’s expected that by the end of 2026, there’s a strong chance that he will have beaten that record, and possibly moved ahead in the number of titles, too.
Marquez has lost ‘explosiveness’ since his best season with Honda, but he’s still able to manage races well and finds a way to win every week.
With nearly half the starts of his Italian rival, Marquez has certainly been able to achieve just as much in far less time. If he continues for a few more seasons, it will be hard to deny him the GOAT tag.
