Davide Brivio pinpoints what Luigi Dall’Igna has done ‘really well’ to spark Ducati’s recent MotoGP success

Ducati have won 22 out of the 24 races on offer during the 2025 MotoGP season and look set to complete a clean sweep of titles.

Signing Marc Marquez appears to have been an inspired move, with the Spaniard leading the riders’ standings by 120 points at the summer break.

Even Ducati’s satellite riders have chipped in too, with Alex Marquez at Gresini being particularly impressive. He has two wins to show for his efforts, in what has been a breakthrough season for him.

Technically, they can thank Luigi Dall’Igna for designing a very impressive bike. More recently, the GP25 has been a bit of a struggle for Francesco Bagnaia in particular.

Ducati didn’t stay true to their ‘brand’ by signing Marquez, according to ex-MotoGP agent Carlo Pernat, who was surprised to see them sign someone they couldn’t develop into a champion.

However, it has left Bagnaia ‘really raging’ at Ducati after having to accept that his new rival was faster than him early in 2025.

Davide Brivio says Luigi Dall’Igna reorganised Ducati staff ‘really well’ to spark MotoGP success

Ducati feared losing out on the MotoGP championship if they didn’t bother signing Marquez, so they went ahead and did it. Now it looks like he’s set to break multiple records in his first campaign.

Just before the summer break, Dall’Igna ‘burst out laughing’ at one Marquez question. He couldn’t believe he was quizzed over whether their bike or rider was most responsible for their success.

In reality, they have swept the majority of races this season because their machinery has been so superior to everyone else’s.

Trackhouse team boss Davide Brivio recognises this and has praised the Italian engineer for his work helping to put a good structure in place at Ducati.

“When Dall’Igna came to Ducati, he didn’t replace the engineers. He reorganised their work. He did that really well,” he told SPEEDWEEK.

“But as far as I know, they were the same employees who had already worked for Ducati during the era when the company was less successful.”

Why Marc Marquez ignored Luigi Dall’Igna’s advice at Ducati earlier in 2025

At the age of 32, Marquez is set to become the oldest champion in the history of MotoGP, as well as achieve the longest gap between winning his first and last (to date) titles.

He has used all of his experience and speed to dominate much of the season, and his bigger errors have evaporated with every event that has gone by.

Marquez ignored a Dall’Igna warning to be more careful in qualifying at the German Grand Prix before claiming pole position.

Just two weeks prior, he had suffered two shunts in practice at Assen, and it had left him battered and bruised, before going on to win both the sprint and the Grand Prix again.
