Luigi Dall’Igna ‘burst out laughing’ after being asked one question about Marc Marquez’s Ducati dominance

Ducati are currently enjoying one of its most dominant spells in MotoGP after putting Marc Marquez on one of their bikes.

The Spaniard is in scintillating form this season, and leads the riders’ standings by 120 points at the summer break. Ducati have never seen anything like it.

Marquez has won both the sprint and the Grand Prix at each of the last five events, meaning he’s currently on a run of 10 consecutive wins.

With 20 more MotoGP races to go this season, he has every chance of wrapping up the title well in advance of the finale. He’d love to do so on arch-rival Valentino Rossi’s home soil at Misano.

Aprilia sent Marquez a warning that they believe he can be beaten, and his rivals are starting to get a bit closer.

But there’s one factor they can’t beat. Marquez has been hailed for his genius, and his racing IQ is something which cannot be matched.

Luigi Dall’Igna ‘burst out laughing’ when asked if Marc Marquez was the reason for Ducati’s dominance

Marquez has shown Luigi Dall’Igna why Ducati haven’t won much compared to their Japanese rivals. They just needed an elite rider.

His hunger and desire to win aren’t likely to wane any time soon, either, meaning that 2026 could be a very long season for his rivals.

When asked one question about Marquez’s dominance by Spanish journalist Nico Abad, Ducati chief Dall’Igna laughed in response.

“I haven’t told you all about Dall’Igna that I did for the race. The headline is Marquez does it easily, which is the impression all of us outside have,” said Abad.

“And I asked him, ‘Look, Gigi, are you ready for people to start saying that Ducati isn’t as good as it used to be and Marquez is the one who covers up its defects and difficulties? Because there is only one Ducati on the podium?’

“He burst out laughing and told me something super important. ‘You know what I’m telling you? That the only thing that matters to me is winning. The rest doesn’t matter to me.'”

Why there might be more to come from Marc Marquez in 2025

Neil Hodgson is ‘struggling’ to watch Marquez in 2025 and has spotted some real differences compared to how he used to ride a Honda bike.

At times this year, he has had to stop himself from falling asleep, so he pushes a bit more. He’s not anywhere near 100% capacity most of the time. It has been too easy for him.

So when his rivals do bring competitive updates, expect to see another level or two revealed by Marquez, who appears to have been saving it in reserve.

It could bring just an extra few tenths and increase the risk, but also take any last hope that anyone had away from anyone who thought they could beat him.
