Jorge Martin’s successful return to MotoGP followed months of hard work and gruelling rehabilitation to get himself back to an acceptable fitness level.
Even then, the Spaniard’s heart rate during the race was nearly 25 beats per minute more than it usually is. The Aprilia bike put him through his paces.
Seventh place at the Czech Grand Prix was more than enough to lift him from the bottom of the MotoGP standings.
After ending a run of 245 days without seeing the chequered flag on a Sunday, Martin can now begin to focus on finding any performance he has lost through being away for so long.
After trying to replicate Marc Marquez, Martin ‘almost crashed’ during his comeback as he pushed to find the limits of his new bike.
Martin still can’t emulate Marco Bezzecchi, with his teammate’s performance under lateral load being far more impressive. That’s to be expected given he hasn’t missed an event all season.

Jorge Martin praised Aprilia for delivering a ‘perfect’ clutch for his MotoGP comeback
The summer break arrives at a good time for the reigning champion, who can continue to train his body and get back towards 100% fitness.
Martin will benefit from an upgrade situation at Aprilia, which has seen the team’s new parts add a lot more performance to their bikes in 2025.
Immediately in the first race after his return, Martin says two ‘important’ factors surprised him. He expected more tyre wear and to be more tired after the race at Brno.
Speaking in his garage after the Czech Grand Prix sprint race, he shared that his team had already mastered one area of his bike for him.
“Also, my reaction time was very quick at the start,” he said. “The clutch was perfect, consistent. I did a good job in the first corners but then f—-, Raul [Fernandez] pushed me wide, and then I lost another position.”
Jorge Martin wanted to use Marc Marquez as a ‘reference’ during his MotoGP comeback
After weeks of discussions, Martin held a behind-the-scenes meeting with Aprilia to reveal his emotions after a contract dispute.
He wants everything to be put behind them and is fully focused on making sure that they deliver a strong second half of the season.
Part of his plan at Brno was to follow the most dominant rider on the grid this season and copy what he was doing.
That worked until Marquez crashed out in Q2, causing Martin to lose ‘concentration’. He admitted that he isn’t all there by himself yet.
“Then I lost concentration because I wanted to have a reference, but on my own, I still don’t have it yet,” he said..
