Marc Marquez comes into the 2025 Czech Grand Prix in complete control of the MotoGP championship.
The Ducati rider is 83 points clear of brother Alex Marquez after claiming another clean sweep last week at Sachsenring. Marc Marquez won his ninth race at the German GP on what was his 200th motorcycle Grand Prix.
The Spaniard has been almost unstoppable in 2025, winning seven Grands Prix and all but one Sprint race. Giacomo Agostini sees similarities between Marquez and Valentino Rossi in how the former can maintain his level of intensity.
Marquez is dominating the field just as he did with Honda in the 2010s. He will look to continue his streak with Ducati this weekend at the Czech Grand Prix.
This weekend marks the first time since 2019 that Brno has been on the MotoGP calendar. That year saw Marquez at his absolute best, and he left his Honda garage stunned by his performance in Czechia.

Marc Marquez sparked ‘crazy’ scenes in Honda garage as he took unfathomable 2019 Czech Grand Prix pole
The 2019 campaign was Marquez’s most dominant championship win, finishing in the top two in all but one race and beating Andrea Dovizioso by 151 points for his sixth MotoGP title.
At the Czech GP, rain fell on the circuit during qualifying. But towards the end of the session, Marquez thought it was dry enough for slick tyres and took his Honda out for one of the greatest pole laps in premier class history.

Marquez glided his RC213V around the circuit, almost losing the bike at one point, to take pole over Jack Miller by over 2.5 seconds. Ahead of Brno’s return to the calendar, MotoGP shared the lap on X (formerly Twitter) and Honda shared their memories of that day.
“Atmosphere in the garage for this one was CRAZY,” the team wrote. “Up there for the best qualifying laps of all time. Which others stand out for you?”

Danilo Petrucci was stunned by Marc Marquez’s 2019 pole lap at Brno
Marquez went on to win the race on his way to the championship. His performance left his fellow riders staggered, most notably Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci.
The Italian finished eighth that weekend, and he could scarcely believe Marquez’s speed in the wet. Mat Oxley shared Petrucci’s brilliant quote on social media as he remembered the Spaniard’s pole lap in 2019.
He recalled: “One of the greatest QP laps and one of the greatest quotes: Petrucci “I don’t understand why the track was dry for Marc and wet for the rest of us.”
Now at Ducati in 2025, Marquez will look to claim another victory as he hopes to equal Rossi’s record of seven premier class titles. The pair’s fierce rivalry still lives on today, with Marquez saying reconciliation does not depend ‘only’ on him, but Rossi as well.
