Marc Marquez won the 2025 MotoGP German Grand Prix for his 69th career premier class victory last Sunday, which also moved the Ducati rider above Giacomo Agostini.
The 32-year-old marked his 200th MotoGP start in the perfect way by dominating, to once again prove why Marquez is the King of the Sachsenring. In an attritional race where just 10 riders would finish the German GP, the Spaniard led all 30 laps and won from pole by 6.380s.
Marquez now only trails Valentino Rossi in the all-time 500cc/MotoGP history books, having surpassed the 68 premier class race wins that Agostini sealed from 1965 to 1977. He needs a further 21 victories to overtake Rossi, who won a record 89 races between 2000 and 2021.
Ducati are also likely to see Marquez match Rossi as a seven-time premier class champion in the 2025 MotoGP season. The Cervera native has won seven of his first 11 Grands Prix riding for the Borgo Panigale crew, while earning seven pole positions and winning 10 Sprint Races.

Giacomo Agostini sees similarities to Valentino Rossi in how Marc Marquez maintains his intensity
The way that Marquez has dominated MotoGP since joining Ducati this year has left Agostini in awe, as well. Ducati overlooked Jorge Martin to promote Marquez from Gresini, and have certainly not regretted their decision with the latter leading the 2025 standings by 83 points.

Agostini can even see a similarity between Marquez and his long-time nemesis Rossi in how the titans on two wheels can maintain the intensity needed to dominate, even if they face a lack of competition. Alex Marquez is his nearest rival, but the 29-year-old is seldom a threat.
“I’d say that several have done it, not many, but several have done this before,” Agostini said on BOBB TV. “Agostini, then Valentino Rossi also arrived, so I’d say that we have made many, many people passionate. Of course, the opponent rightly requires more spectacle.
“But Marquez puts on a great show because he demonstrates [and] shows everyone how to ride, shows his skill, and he is cunning in the race.”
Marc Marquez is frustrating his rivals like Jack Miller with his sheer dominance at Ducati
Marquez produced a masterclass to win the Sachsenring Sprint in the rain last Saturday after a rare mistake at Turn 1 saw him drop back to fifth place on the opening lap. The Ducati pilot put on the show that Agostini cites, as he carved his way back through the order with ease.
Pramac Yamaha star Jack Miller admitted that finishing the German GP 25s behind Marquez ‘really got on my nerves’, as well, as the Australian did not excessively struggle in Saxony yet was almost in a different race. Miller came home in P8 in a four-way fight to try to claim P6.
It was just the latest show of his absolute dominance, with Marquez regularly able to pull a margin over his rivals at ease after building into the races. The Spaniard almost only has to stay on his bike to win, which was not the case at the 2025 Americas or Spanish Grands Prix.
Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia won the Americas GP after Marquez crashed in the lead for his only win so far this term. It was also only after the latter fell fighting for the lead at Jerez that Alex Marquez won his first MotoGP race at the Spanish GP, as Marc recovered for P12.
