How Marc Marquez responded when asked if he’s interested in resolving Valentino Rossi feud

Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi’s feuding relationship has been a hot topic for many years now and was brought up during an interview with the former following his 200th race in MotoGP.

The rivalry between the two elite riders of the sport has continued even after Valentino Rossi‘s retirement from Grand Prix motorcycle racing in 2021.

There have even been reports of Rossi’s entourage fearing Marc Marquez’s current championship-leading form as the Spaniard looks to equal the Italian’s seventh MotoGP title and ninth Grand Prix Motorcycle world championship.

It isn’t just the riders who are engrossed in the feud, with fans at the Italian Grand Prix booing Marquez following his Sprint win in Mugello.

Marc Marquez doesn’t believe reconciliation with Valentino Rossi depends ‘only’ on himself

The relationship was brought up in an interview by DAZN with Marc Marquez after his victory at the Sachsenring.

When questioned about whether he has any interest in settling the differences with The Doctor, the 32-year-old responded, “When something doesn’t depend only on you, you can’t say, ‘I have no interest, no’.”

Whilst it doesn’t completely rule out a rekindling of the relationship between the two heavyweights of motorcycle racing, it certainly sounds as if there isn’t any possibility of them hashing things out anytime soon.

Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi also expressed his wish for Marquez and Rossi to reconcile following the incident with fans in Mugello after Tardozzi was seen trying to calm the displeased Italian fans.

Another win for Marc Marquez sees him edge closer to Valentino Rossi in all-time list

Marquez’s victory at the German Grand Prix saw him take his 95th win in Grand Prix motorcycle racing, 20 wins shy of Rossi’s 115 over the course of a 25-year career.

Despite the rift between the two riders, the way their careers have intertwined is of stark similarity. Marquez’s resurgence in form after joining Ducati in 2024 following the conclusion of a ten-year partnership with Honda has made surpassing Rossi’s win total an absolute reality.

Marquez made it clear in the interview with DAZN that he isn’t focused on the numbers, stating, “Throughout my entire racing career, I’ve never set a specific number of victories. I didn’t know how many victories Agostini had, nor how many Valentino had.”

However, the numbers do mean something to Rossi’s family. Rossi’s father, Graziano Rossi, said in an interview back in April, via Moto.it, that he ‘hopes’ Marquez doesn’t get the opportunity to surpass his son’s tally.

While Rossi may have stepped away from racing, Marquez’s pursuit of his records keeps the feud alive on track, in the MotoGP paddock, and across the fanbase.
