Jorge Lorenzo outlines what Jorge Martin should privately be telling himself ahead of Czech Grand Prix comeback

Jorge Martin will finally make his return to MotoGP at the Czech Grand Prix this weekend, having been out injured for most of the season.

The Aprilia rider has only taken part in one race in 2025, having missed pre-season and the opening three events with several fractures. At the Qatar GP, he suffered further injuries in a crash with Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Upon his return to MotoGP at the Czech Grand Prix, the Spaniard will face huge questioning about his future. During his recovery, Martin was pushing to leave Aprilia after activating an exit clause in his contract.

Aprilia said the clause was invalid due to his injuries, with the matter having looked set to end up in court. Honda was said to be his preferred destination, with it being later revealed that his clause was tied specifically to the Japanese giants.

However, Martin is now ‘certain’ to stay at Aprilia after surrendering his bid to leave the team. Subsequently, Honda have rescinded their three-year contract offer to the 27-year-old.

Martin has reported positive feelings on the RS-GP25, having ridden the bike in private tests ahead of his comeback in Brno. Aprilia’s upturn in form, as Jorge Lorenzo puts it, may have something to do with his sudden change of mind.

Jorge Lorenzo says Jorge Martin should tell himself to stay at Aprilia now they have ‘reconfirmed’ they can win

In Martin’s absence, Aprilia have only had Marco Bezzecchi to rely on, as Lorenzo Savadori, while providing valuable data, has been uncompetitive in races.

But the Noale outfit have made huge strides forward in recent months, with Bezzecchi claiming a win at Silverstone and finishing second at Assen. The RS-GP25 can win races and challenge the Ducatis, which Lorenzo thinks will motivate Martin.

Speaking via Duralavita, Lorenzo says the defending MotoGP champion should tell himself to stay at Aprilia now that their bike is competitive. It may not be his preferred choice, but he has a strong chance of scoring top results.

“It’s a good sign, it’s a good thing that Aprilia has reconfirmed that it’s fast on all circuits,” he said.

“Bezzecchi is proving it, so that should give him peace of mind to say: “Well, maybe it’s not the option I would have liked the most, but since I’m here and it’s going to be like this, I’m going to be here this year and next’.

“Having a competitive bike that can win races has to be something that motivates Jorge.”

Can Jorge Martin win races on his return to MotoGP with Aprilia?

As Bezzecchi has proven, the RS-GP25 is a bike that is worthy of winning races. Martin will certainly be looking to fight at the front in the second half of the season.

Bezzecchi says it’s ‘fantastic’ to have Martin back, but he is not thinking about expectations for him. The reality is that the Spaniard will need time to get back up to speed, having not competed in a Grand Prix weekend since March.

Aprilia know that they have to bide their time with their star rider. Massimo Rivola says Martin needs up to three races to ‘get his act together’, before he then expects him to match Bezzecchi.

Martin told his manager Aprilia’s bike was ‘much better’ after his private test at Misano. This change in mentality is exactly what the Noale outfit need to hear after months of turmoil behind the scenes.
