Marc Marquez leads the MotoGP championship by the significant margin of 68 points, less than halfway through the 2025 season.

Both titles this year look like they will be a cakewalk for Ducati, who have set the standard in the premier class for nearly half a decade.

And Marquez has rediscovered the form of his life, taking 82% of all points available so far this season, which is an incredible record.

Winning a seventh MotoGP title at the end of the campaign would see him crowned the oldest champion of all time, some six years after his last triumph with Honda.

Marquez is making one crucial ‘difference’ in qualifying, and is one of just two riders to have taken more than a single pole position in 2025.

After a tricky Dutch Grand Prix last time out, winning twice, but also crashing twice during practice, Marquez told Ducati staff about an ‘inflammation’ which could suggest he’s in some pain currently. It’s something to keep an eye on.

Marquez wants to equal Valentino Rossi’s record for the most titles, but also wants to beat other achievements he holds onto as well, such as the oldest champion record.

It has resulted in an ultra-disciplined and focused approach from the Spaniard, who isn’t sure whether he will ever get another opportunity like this again.

Part of his success is down to how well he keeps the Michelin tyres alive, giving him much more pace than his rivals at the end of races sometimes. Dennis Noyes believes that it’s down to a technique that he discovered and that Rossi couldn’t figure out.

“The motorcycle people and the tyre people need a translator because they don’t speak the same language. They don’t understand each other,” he told the Oxley Bom Podcast.

“It’s a different science. He said [Kevin Cameron] for example, that the first rider he ever talked to, who really understood how to bring a zombie tyre back from the dead, was Marc Marquez.

“He said that just instinctively, he just figured out, ‘OK, I’ve reached this point right now, and now I have to back off and bring this tyre back,’ Noyes continued.

“A lot of that technique that he had actually caused some misunderstanding on the part of a fellow named Valentino Rossi back in a race that we’re not going to mention [Malaysia 2015] right now.”

Why Marc Marquez is guaranteed to smash one of his biggest MotoGP records in 2025

Marquez has enjoyed some of the most dominant seasons in MotoGP history, with both 2014 and 2019 representing some of his best work.

However, his highest points total is 420, achieved in 2019 by retiring once and finishing inside the top two at every race that season.

We’re not even halfway through the current campaign (10/22 races), and he now sits on a whopping 307 points, just 113 from his record.

At his current pace, he would score 675 points by the end of the season, smashing his own record and setting a very lofty number for his rivals to beat one day.

The sprint race era helps in setting a higher bar, as well as more races, but it does help to show his level of dominance so far this season. He’s on top form.
